Some of the iconography of the Sins was derived from the descriptions of the Battles between the Virtues and Vices in the Psychomachia by the fourth-century poet Prudentius.
Early catologues of vice include , "The Eight Evil Thoughts" listed by Evaagrius (346-399), and John Cassian (360-435),who wrote in "Collationes XXIV" (420-429) about "the eight principal vices". The Seven Deadly Sins were described by Pope Gregory the first (the Great) (540- 604) summarized the sins into a list of 7 in his series of lectures "Moralia in Job" (Morality in Job - XXXI cap. xlv).

Pope Gregory the First's list included what is commonly referred to as the 7 deadly sins:
--o superbia (hubris/pride)
--o avaritia (avarice/greed)
--o luxuria (extravagance, later lust)
--o invidia (envy)
--o gula (gluttony)
--o ira (wrath)
--o acedia (sloth).

I do not know the actual Bible verses but the verses below do explain the sins
+ Pride: Jesus said - That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. Mark 7:20-22
+ Greed/avarice/coveteousness -Mark 7:20-22
+ Lust - Jesus said, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart Mat 5:28
+ Envy - Job said, "For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one."
+ Gluttony Jesus said, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Mat 6:25
+ Wrath Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: Eph 4:31 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Col 3:8 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: Jam 1:19 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Jam 1:20
+ Sloth If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 1Cr 3:14

The seven deadly sins are not actually in the bible. They were kind of a summary of what the bible says about these seven things, and a way for the Church to differentiate between the venial sins and the mortal (deadly) sins.

They are not, It was one of the Popes in Medieval times that listed them. Unlike the 10 Commandments, the 7 deadly sins are sins you do to yourself

"Sin creates [an inclination] to sin; it engenders vice by repetition of the same acts. This results in perverse inclinations which cloud conscience and corrupt the concrete judgment of good and evil. Thus sin tends to reproduce itself and reinforce itself, but it cannot destroy the moral sense at its root." Para. 1865, Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1994 --------------------------- In Roman Catholicism, the Seven Deadly Sins, also known as the capital vices or cardinal sins, are a list of the worst vices that cut a person off from God's grace. In Latin and English, the Seven Deadly Sins are: superbia (pride), avaritia (greed), luxuria (extravagance, later lust), invidia (envy), gula (gluttony), ira (wrath), and acedia (sloth). Each of the Seven Deadly Sins corresponds to one of the Seven Holy Virtues (see below), and together these lists were the moral standards and tests of the early Catholic Church. Much debate thrived over the relative merit of the Seven Deadly Sins in the scope of salvation, as well as their particular ranking. The Roman Catholic Church differentiates between two different types of sin: venial sin (forgiven through a sacrament) and capital sin (meriting damnation without reconciliation). The Seven Deadly Sins may be venial or mortal depending on the specific case (see below).

I have not seen them listed this way in any English translation of the Christian Bible. I think the list is a Medieval construct. Wikipedia credits the list to Gregory the Great in the 6th century. Seven is a nice handy number for basing lessons on.
