Gym membership prices vary a lot from place to place. Some gyms charge money to join and then monthly, and some offer no join fee but just monthly. I've paid anywhere from $0-$200 to join, and from $10-$65 for monthly fees. It just depends. If you go into a gym make sure you (1) find out ahead of time if they have any specials and (2) negotiate for a discount -- usually the prices are "negotiable" not set in stone. Oftentimes gyms will waive their sign-on fees and lower their monthly fees. You just have to ask.

40 bucks a month on the average. Bigger cities with chain locations are usually the best deals. Beware of contracts and large one - time fees before you sign!
