My laptop is basically wrecked. I tried to fix it, but there's no solution. I tried system restore, but that failed. Basically, I can only open it using safe mode. I'm going to pull off my important files onto a backup drive, but after I do that I want to wipe the system back to how it was from the factory. What's the best way to do this?

It didn't come with a restore disc from Dell. I remember when I looked it up that Windows told me that it wasn't needed because system restore would fix everything if something went wrong. Boy were they wrong. Now that everything is messed up I can't make one. Oops.

Call Dell and explain this to them. Tell them that you need a rescue disk for the OS ($10, I think).
Do NOT format the Hard drive until you have this disk.

use the system restore disc provide with the unt. If not then try F10 at boot up as some systems have restore partions. If you lost the disc and have no restore partition then order them direct tfrom the mfg should only cost $30-$40 at most.
DO NOT USE F_DISC AS THAT ONLY FORMATS THE DRIVE IT DOES NOT PUT WINDOWS BACK ON THE COMPUTER.

Try system restore:
start
programs
accesories
system tools
system restore
select the oldest highlighted date. that should do the trick.
If it doesn't after you backup files you created to a flashdrive or whatever, consider formatting the hard drive then reinstalling Windows.
