I had the prestige of tasting beluga caviar (it is no longer allowed to be imported). It was slightly sweet with an acidic taste. Very good, but not worth killing these large ancient creatures for it.

There are so many varieties of caviar. The first time I had it, I really liked it. The second time it was offered, I was excited to have it again, but that time it was WAY too salty. So, I guess it just depends on the quality. Since you do like sushi, you may like a high quality caviar. Have you ever had California rolls with the smelt eggs on top? Try that sometime, and it will give you a basic idea...

I love the stuff. If you find it to salty then you are have a low quality product. I have tried many and agree it is an aquired taste like anchovies which I adore also.
My 8 year old daughter loves caviar as well and eats it with gusto straight from the pot when I am not looking

Caviar has a very strong taste. If you want to try it and not die on the process, I strongly recommend you to have it this way:
On a small dark bread toast, put some Philadelphia cheese, on top add black or red caviar and wash it with the best champagne you can afford.
Hope it helps.

I have tried caviar about 20 years ago and it was very salty and very crunchy and did not like it at all and have never tried it since and dont think I ever want to again.
I am not a fussy eater either, it is very expensive here in this country. Sushi is wonderful.

I tried it once and it really doesnt taste nice at all. They make it really salty so that there is some sort of flavour other then dead fish eggs.
It might taste better the higher the price but I am not willing to pay for it.
Good luck when you try it.

Yes and yes it does look gross but the salty, egg popping and fishy taste keeps me coming back for more. My kids don't like it but I grew up eating all kinds of seafood and caviar was one of them. I absolutely adore it.

I have only tried the caviar on a cruise ship.
It is as disgusting as you can imagine.
But I do like escargot.
