My 27 yr old son was told he has acid reflux. So he has been taking Nexium for a year now. This "once a day" pill, is how it's advertised, but he takes 2 a day, (per doctor's approval). He still has problems. So is it reallly acid reflux, or something else? I am really getting concerned, but his doctor's just say the
same thing when he goes to see them. Anyone else have this experience, or suggestions? Appreciate your input

Get another doctor.

Has he had an endoscopy done of his esophagus? Even if it is acid reflux, that can cause scarring of the esophagus or cancer. If it still hurts, he needs to find out why.

It might even be an ulcer, which can often be cured by antibiotics.

He should not eat before going to bed, he should sleep with his head raised, and he should not sleep on his right side.

And he should stop eating those dang jalapeno peppers!

I had sever acid reflux and then I told my doctor about it and he put me on Priloisac OTC, 2 tablets one time a day. He said to try it for a month if it didn't work he would give me something stronger. It has done wonders!!! It is an Over the Counter drug, however, my doctor wrote a prescription so that insurance would pay.

Nicotine really contributes to esophageal ulcers and cancer. If a glass of water mixed with one tablespoon of baking soda stops the burning for a little while, it probably is acid reflux.
A change in diet will make a huge difference. Especially what he eats and drinks in the morning.
Find a different doctor.

Have him try a natural cure. For example a teaspoon (or tablespoon) of Apple Cider Vineagar daily is supposed to help tons. I'd study online for more suggestions like that. Those never hurt you, and some truly help.

He may need to see a doctor to rule out any serious problem before it gets worse.

Take him to a gastroenterologist. They know more about this than a GP, family practitioner, or internist.
