Flying commercial is less dangerous than your drive to the airport. Flying in light single engine aircraft is probably a bit more dangerous because of pilot experience and judgement. There are small aircraft pilots I will not fly with, just as their are automobile drivers I will not ride with. I have been a pilot for many years and I feel more secure in an airplane than I do in any auto on the ground. "Each year in the US 1 out of 6800 drivers dies in an auto accident. The rate for airline passengers is 1 in 1.6 million. The same table shows that per passenger mile, air travel is safer by more than a factor of two. I doubt this last figure; I think it should be about 100x safer, because I guess we
drive and fly the same number of miles (give or take a factor or 2-5) per year, yet fatalities are 200 times higher for autos than for airlines." The preceeding quoted statement is from the link listed below. I hope this will lessen your fear of flying from a safety standpoint. Best Regards, DP

No I don't feel that way at all. We're flying 2 to 3 times a year within the North American Continent and to Europe and besides lost luggage I find it very safe, as long as you fly with a reputable airline who maintains their planes properly. We don't use any doo hicky outfit not over the ocean that's for sure.

No. I was a little scared the first time, but now it's no big deal. Just sit back and relax.

No, it's safer than driving a car. Can't give you specific data but more people die in automobile collisions than air craft disasters annually.

Yes.

If your arms get tired, you could fall and hit the ground. :)
