My brother and I are Lebanese and we have many jewish friends (my little bros best friend is jewish) He's in 7th grade.
He wasnt singing a Song for Hanakuh (sp?) that was in hebrew and his other friends were not singing it either. He is the only Arab kid in his class....well his teacher stops class and points him out and says
"why arent you singing the song"
and he said it was because he didnt like it.
(and i admit its a pretty stupid song but its not stupid because its in hebrew...its just not a very nice song)
Well his teacher called him a racist.
My question is...Is there any legal action i can take against this teacher?
Can I get this chick fired???
well as any older sister would tell her brother.. i told him that the next time she says anything even close to being racist that he could beat the crap out of her but i want to take it a bit further and get her in trouble.
(Just because we're lebanese doesnt mean we hate jews)

You are absolutely right that she has no right to label him when she has no way of knowing why he didn't want to sing the song.
But I hope you are joking about beating her, not because she doesn't deserve it, but because that would get your bro in a world of trouble that he doesn't deserve either.
Best thing would be for you to go see her and privately warn her off making judgements where your family is concerned. You could point out to her that you could have chosen the option to publicly humiliate her with lies like she did to your brother and tell her that next time she does it that will be your preferred option.

When my father was younger he had 2 cousins that were riding their bikes on the road. They were both about the age of 7. They were hit by a work truck and killed instantly. My father's aunt had the man fired. The ACCIDENT was the kids fault not the drivers. In fact the driver was VERY remorseful and truly sorry for what had happened.
Anyway my aunt had this man fired and there was bad luck in her house hold for a long time because of it. Once they man got his job back things were better for them.
MY point. Why get someone fired just because she said something that you don't agree with? Are you any better then my great aunt, who lost someone? Just talk to her and find out her side of the story. There are 2 and unless you look at both sides then what can you really do?

I personally would definitely file a complaint against the teacher and let the school board launch an investigation. Do not provoke him into a physical altercation because that would make matters much worse. Let the school board handle the case themselves. Do not let it go without doing anything though because the teacher is suppose to be helping mold the minds of our youth. They should not be filling their minds with thoughts of racism let alone the word itself. If this in fact did occur, the consequences should be dealt to the appropriate parties.

I don't think you can get her fired, but if you're bro is feeling really bummed about it, you can sue the teacher for harassment. I'm pretty sure that forcing a child to sing a song that he doesn't like is a violation of his first ammendment right of self expression. If i was his teacher, i may have lowered his grade a bit for being obstinate, but berating a child in such a way, and going so far as to call him a racist is very unprofessional.

However, its not a crime to not like Jews either. You may not be popular, but its not a crime to hate anyone.
I suspect the teacher maybe Jewish herself (is this a public school?!).

Call the Principal, having a meeting with her and the teacher. Then, if you don't like what happens, go to the School Board. If all else fails--go to the media. Ignorant people should not teach our children. Sounds like she may have a problem seperating what is going on in the world from what is happening in her classroom. My old history teacher was fired for calling a student retarded, and he was just joking. I mean he shouldnt have done it, but the kid was insulting him and arguing and he said "r u retarded? When i was in Sydney the Lebs as they are known were not very popular due to their behaviour and attitude to their adopted country.
I suggest you lebs take a leaf out of everybodies book and listen to the phrase when in Rome do as the Romans do!
