A few facts for you:
Most places will require you to show ID that you are 18 or have a parent with you, with their ID
If you don't do well with pain, it won't make a difference where you get it. I have a large Celtic design on the back of my left forearm and when they got to the wrist,.... YEEEOOOOWW Same with the band around my right bicep, when they did the soft tender part inside the arm, quite painful. I think its fair to tell you that I have driven myself to the emergency room with a kidney stone before, I have a high pain threshhold. Again, this is not to scare you out of your decision, just giving you the facts. A nice part is that the endorphins in your body will cause you get a natural high and feel awesome when its done!!! :-)
DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL, yes you mentioned your age, but as a rule, any reputable shop will refuse service if you're intoxicated... at all!
DO EAT before you go, it helps prevent you from passing out and throwing up if you're so inclined
DO VISIT the shop you want your work from. Watch the artists and their sanitation practices. Do they dispose of the needles in front of the customer? How clean is the shop? What is the vibe there?
If there is a female artist there, talk to her and tell her your concerns and what you're looking for. Ultimately the artist is your best resource and guide in the process. Remember, this will be on you until you die and removing it with laser treatment is MORE painful than getting it in the first place.
Since you're young, as a final word of advice, if you want a corporate job someday, don't place your ink where it will show while dressed for work. A lot of law firms, high end hotel chains and other corporate offices do discriminate against people with tattoos, not cool, but also not against the law, unless its a religious symbol.... that's another question.
Hope this helps you out in the process and good luck.

Anywhere covered by a layer of fat! That will hurt the least, but you don't have a lot of body fat, or you want it elsewhere, something where the bone is covered by muscle. I don't care what others say, but a tat hurts THE MOST on bone.
But also, I've been told, that if you plan to get more than one, do the most painful one first, that way the rest are a breeze.
Hope I've helped!
PS- Because of your age, talk with your parents so you can get it done professionally. They might freak and make you wait instead of giving permission, but waiting is better than the problems that can result (hepatitis, HIV, staph infections, plus "ghetto tats" have a very big tendency to scar badly, ask my hubby!)
PPS- Also, I would suggest thinking over this at least 6 months to a year. Well thought out tattooes are the ones that everyone loves, but ask anyone with an "on the spot tat" and they will tell you that they hate it. I've been planning out the design and layout, as well as when I feel it would appropriate to get mine, for the last 4 years.

The back near the shoulder blade I think is the least painful. The fleshy parts of your body hurt where you have any fat!
I thought you had to be 18 to get a tattoo. If you're going to do it behind your parent's back at some party, make sure they are being safe! My bf has a few tattoos and I have one, and they were very safe, sterile and professional.
I have 6 piecings and a tatoo hurt 100 times more than a piercing did.

What a coincidence...I have a Chinese symbol for peace, and it is on the back of my neck. It really didn't hurt, but if you have a low pain tolerance try to put it somewhere fleshy, instead of somewhere bony. Anytime you get a tattoo on a bony area it will hurt worse. Good luck!!!

I have tattoo's and love each of them, because I was sure I could live with them for life. Don't get something on a whim or dare, nor a political issue that will change with time. NO NAMES either! As far as where it will hurt the least, anywhere the sun hits your skin will be tougher and easier to take.

Don't get a tattoo if you couldn't deal with an ear piercing. If you get a professional to pierce you ear instead of doing it yourself it shouldn't hurt that much (as long as you aren't talking about a cartilage piercing).

ok... well everyone has different preferences. for some people it hurts where its most boney. others its where it feels best to be touched. try and put it on a fatty part of your body . a shoulder blade is not too painful either but all tattoos hurt. the 1st few minutes hurt but you get used to it and then POOF! its over. =]

I have 3 tattoos, they are on my lower back, front left hip on the hip bone, and on the inside of my ankle. Of the three the one on my lower back hurt the least. and it is the chinese symbol for "teacher". The hip healed good but it hurt. the ankle was slow to heal because I kept bumping it. Also, the benefit of your lower back is that you can't see the needle so you can't watch it .

the least painful part of your body to get a tattoo would be a very fleshy part....like your butt.....but if you couldnt stand getting your ears pierced i dont think youll manage going through the process of getting a tattoo........
