Yeah I've heard of it. My son was born with boobs, that leaked! He had the breast for about a week I think. The doctors told me that right before you have your baby your body releases a horomone, estragin, that can cause breast in both boys and girls and periods in girls... It's normal and will stop with time don't worry about her she is ok... What sweirder to me is sometimes I will take off my baby's diaper and he will have a baby erection!!! Yuck! But I'm told that's normal too

The hormones of the mother get through to the child. While rare, this is perfectly normal.
This will stop as soon as the mothers hormones have passed through the baby and are gone.

Let's start at the beginning. In the newborn period, it is not unusual for a baby girl to have a slight vaginal discharge, which may have a little blood in it. But, this discharge resolves within a matter of days to weeks. And it is true that this discharge is due to the fact that the baby still has some of her mom's hormones in her, and therefore causes a vaginal discharge.

if her baby is a newborn, it's normal for a week after it's born.
i don't know, but I've seen some strange cases on discovery health channel. a 3 year old little girl started puberty too soon and she had to take medicine to make it stop. she had already grown pubic hair, hair on her legs and armpits. and there was another girl, she was only 5 years old and started her period.
that is very rare, but for a tiny baby to be bleeding down there? maybe she is either not telling you the whole story, exaggerating, or needs to find another doctor. other than that you cannot control the situation, unless you don't mind calling CPS.

This is completely normal. It happened to me when I was a baby and my mom and dad freaked out too. It happens because when babies are born they have some of the mother's hormones in them. The higher the hormone level is, the greater the chance of the baby having a "baby periods". When the mother's hormone level drops in the baby, there will be no more periods.

A little bleeding is normal. Spotting is what me(so my mom tells me) and my little girl both did when each of us were born.
If the baby is bleeding as much as a normal period then it's bad because she will lose too much blood.
tell your friend to . . . Go to a different doctor.

It is normal. It's also normal for their breasts to leak(baby boys and girls). It's due to the mothers' hormones. Though it happening in girls in much more common than in boys.

on some female babies during the first couple of weeks after birth they can sometimes bleed but it isn't really blood i don't think , my daughter did this for about 2 wks after she was born , i was warned ahead of time they said it was a reddish discharge. but if the baby is older than a couple of weeks then no its not normal she would need to see another doc.

Female infants can have a discharge shortly after birth due to getting hormones from the mother. It is not the same as a woman's menstual cycle, but it can be pinkish.
If she is concerned she should get a second opinion, have her baby checked out by another pediatrician.

i have never in my life heard of a newborn baby having a period. it is possible for a newborn female to have a slight discharge, its all part of the development of the internal organs i guess. I would have her checked out by another doctor JUST to be sure there is nothing else wrong
