Ok, so ICNA (Islamic Council of North America) declared the first day of Ramadhan to be the 23rd, but it is physically impossible that the moon was visible the night preceding the 23rd, so they were clearly mistaken. On the east coast, the moon MAY have been visible for a few minutes on the night of the 23rd, making the 24th the first day. It was illuminated by 1% for 1 minute after nightfall before moonset. Most people started fasting on the 24th. At latest, the first day of Ramadhan was the 25th. The last day will probably be the 24th of October.

The first day of Ramadhan this year in Indonesia is on Sunday September 24,2006 but in Saudi Arabia is a day earlier on Saturday,September 23,2006.The beginning of fasting month is decided by the team of theologists and announce it through out the country. They look the moon on the west part of horizon. If it can be lokked in the smallest part they decide it as the first day of a month is muslim calendar. In muslim calendar a month is 29 and 30 days alternately.

It was officially on Saturday, the 23rd of september.

Dont listen to any muslims on this (and im saying this and im a muslim)

My experience is that muslims always like to argue about the moon and random crap like that and eventually half the ppl do it one day and half the people do it the next.

I say just listen to the white ppl who're 10x smarter:

Just go to any store, pick up the calendar, look up the date where it says "Ramadan", and THATS the first day of ramadan.
