your dog needs a Rabies shot when he gets this he will get a tag saying so ... without this tag you can get a fine it is the law. do not get a shot for rabies until they are 6 months old the vet will try to sell it to u sooner but it doesn't work it will not help against the rabies until he is 6 months before it is a waste and you should be all set on that tag there will be a number on it if your dog should get lost they can find you thru this number the multiple tags on the dog you had seen was probably several yrs of Rabies tags people leave them on ... you can hear your dog coming from the jingle enjoy your pup they are a lot of work in the beginning but it is worth every minute of little tip vinegar and water mix is a must have for those puppy messes takes the smell out and they will not pee there again and buy a crate....... you need more help give a holler

I have always had dogs and am pretty experienced in the whole canine thing! All of my dogs have a collar with 1) a tag with the dog's name and my phone number, and 2) the rabies tag. Once your dog gets his rabies shot from the vet, your vet will order a special tag that says that your dog has had his rabies shot and where he got it. They'll mail it to you and call you when it comes in. Other than that, I don't think you need any other tags. I have seen little trinkets that you can add to the collar, that say cute things like "Prince" or "Best Friend," but these are of course optional, and I choose not to use them because who wants all those tags jingling on your neck? If you have any other questions about the tags, I'm sure that your vet can help you, or ask a friend or family member who owns dogs.

Hope this helps. Congratulations on getting a puppy. They're loads of fun and they'll certainly keep you busy, but they are mischievious so be careful to put things away when you're finished using them! l have lost many shoes and socks from crazy little pups!

i have 3 tags on my dogs, but I only NEED 2... at least where I live. Here in FL, you need the license tag (to show that your dog is registered with the city) and, well, I guess that's the only one you need, the other tags I have are the microchip tags (that have the microchip number, and the phone number to the chip company, if the dogs are found by someone who doesn't have a chip scanner) and I have their rabies tags... but you can't get your dog licensed here without their rabies vaccinations, so you don't need the rabies one. Hope this helps, sorry it was so long.

Depends on where you are I suppose.
In the US, by the looks, you need a rabies tag, if your dog has to be registered with local council that is another tag, and a tag with owner contact details ..... That makes three.

Here in Aus the only compulsory tag is the registration tag. Optional is owner details. Even though the dogs have microchips, some finders prefer to return the dog themselves to save the owner pound fees, etc.
Mine also has the shelter tag. The shelter and the pound are on the same premises

Call PetSmart and PetCo stores in your area and see if one near you has a tag engraving machine. Some of them have very cute tags a machine engraves with info you put in. My experience has been that the PetCo stores have better tag making machines if they have them. But not sure how it is in your area. You get it instantly, no sending it in and waiting. They have some really nice tags at some locatons.

2 tags are required by law...the rabies tag and your dog licence tag. Then of course you will have the identification tag. So three tags is right.
