The simplest way is to buy either cubed steak or make hamburger patties

Season and Fry with onions and mushrooms (optional)
Then make brown/onion gravy and pour over and put it into the oven at 350 for about 15 minutes to allow the meat to absorb the juices.

This way is fast and simple and usually pleasing to everyone.

You're gonna tweak a meatloaf recipe. Ground beef (chuck, round, whatever you like), a couple eggs, a binder( bread crumbs, cracker crumbs, quick oatmeal, Minute Rice). That's your foundation, now the fun part comes. The veggies and seasonings. An envelope of dry onion soup mix works well, a fews squirts of Worcesterschire, maybe a tablespoon or so of ketchup or tomato paste. Now some texture. Finely chop some onions, peppers, celery, garlic, whatever you like. Maybe a grated carrot or two. Form this mixture into patties, and brown on both sides, in a drop or two of oil. At this point you can finish it on the stove, or pop it in the oven. Some cream of mushroom soup, a little Kitchen Bouquet, a brown gravy mix or canned brown gravy, either works, thin it with a little water if you need to and check for seasonings. simmer for a half hour or so, or in the oven for 45 mins. Serve with mashed potatoes or noodles. As you can tell, my recipe is rather fluid, based on what I have in the cupboard. Yours will be to.

Easy Salisbury Steak
[Reset]
Keys : Main Dish Beef Meats
Ingredients :

For each pound of ground beef/turkey
1cancream of mushroom soup
1canmushroom sauce
1canmushrooms (optional)* drained and rough chopped
1xegg
ketchup
Worcestershire Sauce
dry chopped onion
salt and pepper
flour

Method :

* * If using optional mushrooms, I use 1 can for up to 2 lbs of meat.
* Recipe note: I use 1/2 pound each of lean ground beef and ground turkey.
* Preheat oven to 350*
* Patties:
To the ground meat add the egg, some salt and pepper to taste, a couple of dashes of Worcestershire Sauce, and some dry chopped onion to taste, and some ketchup. This should be just a little "denser" then a meatloaf mixture Mix this well and form into patties. (I get about 6 for one pound of meat) Dredge the patties in the flour and brown in a skillet with a little oil. Do NOT cook the patties, only brown them on each side. This takes just a couple of minutes.
* Gravy:
While the patties are browning, combine the can of cream of mushroom soup, mushroom sauce, and the chopped mushrooms. I add a couple more shakes of Worcestershire Sauce to the gravy, and sometimes a little bit more of the dry onion flakes.
* Once the patties are browned, remove them from skillet and put in a baking dish. Pour the gravy over them and bake for 30 minutes.
* This is delicious served with mashed potatoes and put the extra gravy over them. We NEVER have leftovers of this one!!! Enjoy!
* NOTES : Recipe note: I use 1/2 pound each of lean ground beef and ground turkey.

I agree with the person who recommended using meatloaf and serving it w/ brown gravy.

You can make the meatloaf mixture into patties and fry them like hamburgers, then put the brown gravy over it. Just by it from the store.

Meat mixture
1 lb ground beef
1 egg
1/2 cup of bread crumbs
salt and pepper
garlic OR garlic powder .
finely chopped onion

Mix together, shape into patties, fry until done and serve w/ gravy.

if u r using round steak for this beat the steak with a meat cleaver until it is thinned out. dip in flour and brown both sides then add water and turn on low heat and simmer. you can add onions and what other season's u like. simmer on low until tender. just don' t forget to keep adding water until almost done. let the water boil almost out and then add a can of mushroom soup

How I do it (which may not be conventional) Is to take a meatloaf recipe, add a few sauteed green peppers, and serve with brown gravy over it. (This may not be traditional, but it works, it's easy, and it will feed a crowd)
The eggs from the meatloaf recipe guarantee that they'll be tender and juicy.

Here's my recipe

Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy
Yield: 6 generous servings

1/2 lb sliced bacon, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1-1/2 Cup Yellow Onions, chopped
4 (4 oz cans) Sliced Mushrooms, drained
2-1/2 Tsp Salt
1/2 Cup Shallots, minced
2 Sprigs Fresh Thyme
1 Sprig Fresh Rosemary Leaves
1/2 Cup Dry Red Wine
2 Tbsp All Purpose Flour
2 Cups Rich Beef Stock
1/2 Cup Heavy Cream, plus 2 Tbsp
1-1/2 lbs Lean Ground Beef, such as chuck
3/4 lb Len Ground Veal
1/2 lb Lean Ground Pork
2 Egg Yolks
2 Tsp Dijon Mustard
1-1/2 Tsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
1/4 Tsp Freshly Ground Black Pepper
2 Tbsp Cold Unsalted Butter
2 Tbsp Chives , chopped

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the bacon until most of the fat is rendered but it is not yet crisp. Transfer the bacon to the bowl of a food processor and set aside. Remove all but 3 tablespoons of the bacon fat from the skillet. Reserve the additional rendered bacon fat in a small bowl and set aside.

Add the chopped onions to the fat in the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, until very soft and caramelized around the edges, about 6 minutes. Combine the onions with the bacon in the bowl of the food processor and process until smooth. Transfer to a large bowl and set aside to cool.

Heat 3 tablespoons of the remaining bacon fat in the pan. Add the mushrooms and 1 teaspoon of the salt, and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are tender, about 5 minutes. Add the minced shallots, thyme, and rosemary, and cook until the shallots are soft, about 2 minutes. Add the red wine and cook until almost completely evaporated. Sprinkle the flour over the shallots and mushrooms, and stir to combine. Cook for 1 minute. Add the beef stock and cook for 5 minutes, until thickened. Add 1/2 cup of the heavy cream, stir to combine, and cook until the sauce is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon and the flavors come together, about 6 minutes. Cover and keep hot while you prepare the meat patties.

Preheat the broiler to 500ºF.

In the mixing bowl with the pureed onion-bacon mixture, add the beef, veal, pork, remaining 2 tablespoons of heavy cream, egg yolks, mustard, Worcestershire Sauce, garlic, remaining 1-1/2 teaspoons of salt, and pepper, and mix lightly but thoroughly.

Shape into 6 oval patties, about 1 cup each, and 1-inch thick, and transfer to a nonstick baking sheet or broiling pan. Broil the patties close to the heat source, about 4 minutes on each side for medium-rare.

Add the meat pan drippings, butter, and chives to the sauce and stir until the butter is thoroughly incorporated. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.

Serve the patties immediately with some of the mushroom sauce ladled over the top.
