Whenever these kind of feelings arise, try to see them not as problematic, but as opportunities. It is quite possible and even probable that true insight is knocking at the door. The "self" we think we are is a case of mistaken identity. Our real selves get blocked out by layers of denial and the feeling you describe is actually some of that denial falling off. Trust that it is a positive thing, even if there is discomfort with the idea that you may not be who you think you are. Like Joni Mitchell once said, "We are stardust, trying to get back...."

I to get quiet, this is not a good thing, but I believe it is a coping skill. It is not good to feel you can't be yourself. If it only happens occasinally then don't worry. Stay away from people, places or things that are negative and make you feel like this. I think in everyones life there are situations where you can't be yourself. Just observe and try to think good, positive thoughts not bad or negative ones. Some times it takes a few visits at the same place where you felt uncomfortable being yourself, but after time it gets easier. I hope I helped! Hugs! Von

Why can't you be yourself? Are you stupid? Do you have nothing to contribute? Nobody wants to hear what you have to say?

Come on! You're worth every bit as much as anyone else!

And if you make a mistake, so what? Nobody's perfect, but non-action or withdrawl can lead to regret.

Go for it! Be yourself! What's the worst that can happen? Will you die? Of course not. The worst that will happen is you'll be forced to find people you CAN be yourself around. Bummer, huh? :)

Gwen

You think about the kind of person you were years ago, and try to understand why. Compare yourself to the person you are today, and see who you really are and become your true self. Your personality is always dependant on your actions and events happening in your life.

be myself and let the chips fall as they may. You may feel you can't be yourself, but don't let that stop you from just being you.
