Don't panic. Keep taking your medications and talk to your doctor about your concerns but some medications take longer than other to start showing their effects. And that is because the drug has to reach a certain levels in your body before actually starting to work.

Yeah I think that is too much medication. I've taken effexor before but the problem with those drugs is A-your body learns to need them to function, and B-They are prescribed without taking other things into consideration like not getting your vitamins, and not exercising will cause both low seratonin levels and mental problems. If you don't believe me read in detail what the function of each vitamin is in the body. Nowadays we don't eat right or exercise and invent medicine to make us feel o.k. anyway. Oh and a certain amount of worry is natural and healthy I think. Not many world leaders on Prozac. I have done a lot of stupid things on anti-depressants while I was in an false unworried state that I will always regret. The main problem with those DRUGS ARE THERE ARE NO LONG TERM STUDIES ON HOW THEY EFFECT THE BODY! THEY'VE ONLY BEEN OUT FOR LIKE 20 YEARS.

Being bipolar and taking medication is a tricky thing to get regulated. My sister has been switched on meds for the past 2 years. I take Effexor for mood swings and luckily they work, so far. You may need to be switched to another medication that will work with you.

Well, different medications are out there because no one will work for everyone. Effexor has been a godsend for me, but it might not be right for you. However, xanax isn't a good idea because it is addictive and loses effectiveness over time. Keep trying and someday you will find the right medications that work for you.

I'm not on medication, but my kid is. Has been for years now...my child is "schitzo affective/bipolar disorder". Just give the medication time to work. Maybe an other month. If you still feel like it's not working, tell your doctor and have it changed. Sometimes you can go through a lot of this, but be patient and try to let it work. Good luck to you, my thoughts and heart are with you.

it takes time for the meds to work. and some meds that work for me won't work for you. and some meds that work for you won't work for me. these types of drugs are funny that way.

there are other drugs that your doctor may want to try. i couldn't take effexor because the side effects wore me out. I was on it for 3 years before i just couldn't live with the side effects any more. told my doc about it and she switched me to Lexapro and i'm happier than i've been in a long time and the side effects aren't nearly as bad as with the effexor.

keep trying---don't give up. you and your doc will find the right combo of medication for you.

you know---something that could help your medicine along is to take up walking or some cardiovascular exercise. i'm not talking about training for a marathon--just get outside and walk a bit---exercise can work wonders on depression.

best of luck to you kiddo.

I had the same thing. Paxil is my new medium. It was the only way to stay calm and focused on the world and my life with out the constant panic and worry about the future or lack of a future. Of lonliness. Of loss. Paxil keeps me in check. I was diagnosed with slight bipolar, MDD, and OCD. Life for me is better with paxil, although it makes me sort of Garden State.

watch out for that xanax. once you are addicted, the withdrawal and recovery time is many months and can cause years of mental instability. see www.benzoisland.org for details.

It can take weeks or months to work and you may not be taking the right dose.
