Hey passionat...,

Stay true to your name. You must keep plugging away at your art. Take classes, expand your mediums, try showing your own stuff. Work, play, create. Best of luck.

Sounds like you are headed in the right direction. I would recommend talking to the artists that exhibit in your gallery and also other venues around you. Some will tell you it is just luck, but others may have some good insight for you.

Also check resources of local arts & culture centers and colleges/schools. Some art teachers are only that, but I have found a handful of them who are exceptionally active in the art world and have a working knowledge of how to gain respectability.

One of the best pieces of advice I received from a visiting artist was "make lots of stuff" some of it will be bad and that's ok, you'll still learn from it, but some of it will be fantastic. Don't hesitate to try new approaches and fail, you don't know until you make the attempt.

Also, almost any show you can get your work into is a good idea. It gets your name out there and it gives you an idea of what different venues are interested in displaying.

Having others critique your work with you can be very beneficial. Just remember, what they say is their opinion and it is ok to disagree.

Good luck.
