Hawaii is a in the US...so no, you don't need a passport to go there any more than you do to go to New York. Passports are for international travel.

ummmmmmm, no!!!! I live in Michigan, and just returned from Oahu, Hawaii with my husband and son, and we do not have passports. Hawaii is a state. Just like all the other 49 states! First I heard of needing a passport to go to another state! Utterly ridiculous if you ask me!!

Hawaii is still an American state last time I heard.
You don't need a passport to visit any one of the United States of America, or it's subsidiaries.

Yes...

A passport is required for all people who are not Hawaiian. Before you can apply to visit Hawaii, you must undergo a background check that includes your personal history for the last five years. Please bring the following documentation with you when you apply. Health records, previous employment history, addresses and list of sexual partners.

If you pass this process you will need to get your shots. There are about 50 in all and they are administered in stomach and kidney areas of the body. The process takes about four hours.

Blood, urine and stool samples are also required before you can exit the aircraft.
