Hi Dee, u better open in the Bible on Exodus 20: 1-17 ... it's very clear written there.
There are lot of ways that u can help children understand and of them is By reading those together (if children can read) and u have to explain them one by one the meaning of them.
For your information and i like to share what I have been studying that is the ten commandments were no longer being used in our present time as law but its only just principal. The ten commandants and other 600 Taurat laws didnt use anymore u can read on Galatians 3:10-12. Cos now our law is only one that is LOVE (John 13:34,35). For example if we have LOVE .. we will worship only One GOD, we will not worship another GOD in carved image or a form of anything, we will honour our parents, we will not murder, we will not xommit adultery and so on.
U better teach them how we have to love (please open 1 Corinthians 13 : 4-8)
I hope this information will help u to teach children.

children 6-8 are too young to understand it. Wait until they get older before preaching the commandments to them.

The original commandments were about as simple as they could be.

The only ones they won't understand are the ones about adultery and coveting.

Explain he easy ones and don't worry about the rest for now.
