I don't think I hate them as much as you do from the sound of the rest of your question. However, I am not crazy about them. I do believe in marriage for people who want that, but they don't really have to include us in everything. And if people want to live together and have children together before marriage, that is their business, but do not expect everyone to come to a big formal wedding and buy an expensive gift, too. Hey, maybe I do hate them as much as you to.

Marriages nowadays can't say for all of them though especially Hollywood and High Society. It is an extravaganza to promote more $$$. Just look at the bridal magazines and the couples. Usually they are the upper class having $100k dollar weddings with lights, sand hauled from the beach, and gold encrusted goblets. They even list the name of the brides gown, rings, underwear all to promote advertising and $$$. Everything is so public and not sacred.
A small wedding with friends like a small BBQ in the backyard with intimate family is sweet and loving. My thoughts.

I believe in marriage but I really don't believe in these extravagant weddings where everybody - the wedding planner, the florist, the photographer, and everything - the dress, the ring, the reception, the caterer, the champagne, the bridesmaid dresses, the tuxedo rentals, the honeymoon...just EVERYTHING costs a mega-fortune because they jack up the price.
It's different if people have that kind of money to burn, but a whole lot of people go wayyyyyy into debt for ONE frigging day. I have a friend whose brother and his wife spent $35,000 on their wedding. He lost his job and was out of work for months. He found a job on commission and isn't making that much, then she lost her job.
I understand that the day is special but it shouldn't make you lose your mind. What start off your married life in debt? If you don't think twice about spending that much money on one day in your life why wouldn't you think about buying a house or investing in something for your future instead??????
A nice simple ceremony with family and friends within your budget is fine. If you can't afford it then you don't need to go into debt trying to show off to the world.

I like weddings, but i would rather be the cat lady. I have panic attacks when I walk down the craft isle with the bride and grooms and other wedding stuff....
