Lucozade was 10% 'Corn Syrup' - starch hydrolysate - as the sweetener with a dash of lemon flavour and a few vitamins. This made it cloying.
After WW2 it had special dispensation to use yellow film wrapping supposedly to stop sunlight affecting the vitamins.
If it had any effect on illnesses it was purely as a placebo.
