Earlier today some drunk decided to run after hitting my vehicle. Luckily for me both of my god brothers were outside when it occured and they are police officers, so they were able to stop him. He had no proof of insurance or registration in the vehicle, and was to drunk to understand anything. I have all of his information and the vehicle information, except insurance. Does anyone know how I can go about finding out if the vehicle is insured? Please help, since I have a $550 deductible if he is not insured.

make a police report. then give all that information to your insurance company and let them handle it.

If you report the information to your own insurance company, part of their JOB and the reason why you pay them money every month is to find this stuff out and work on your behalf. You may have a coverage in place (depending on your coverages and your state) that pays differently in the event of a hit & run than it would in the event of you being at fault. Your God brothers may have access to some of the information, but due to most privacy regulations could not release it to you--but as witnesses could be contacted by your insurance company and CAN release some of the information to them (see a pattern here??). Good luck to you.

If your God Brother's are cops they can find this out for you...police have the means to find out this information so ask them to do it....other than that...go to the courhouse and have them run the vehicle and they can tell you the last known insurance the person had. the person had to have insurance in order to register the vehicle...at least in all the states I know of they do...then call the insurance company and explain what happened and let it roll from there

Well, since you have a connection to the cops, why can't they run a tag trace? If you live in a state where insurance information is provided via tag trace that would be the way to go. Or turn it over to your insurance and they'll continue to bug him and tell him they're seeking reimbursement of your damages from him if he doesn't have insurance. If he does, he'll fess up. Or, you could just call him.

By the way, if you haven't reported this to your insurance, you should. Your contract requires it.

Report it to your insurance company and they will help you with that information. If he does not have insurance and you pay a deductible, you can take him to court to recover that money.
