Before nswering- there are few Q's that u need to think about

- What type of dog do you really want? Do you want a mellow, tranquil dog, or an active one?
- If you are thinking about getting a big active dog, are you the type of person that enjoys doing exercise and will you be consistent and take the dog out so that he gets all the exercise he needs?
-What is the reason you are getting the dog? Are you looking
for protection, a companion, a hunting dog? Or are you looking for one you can put on your lap and hug and cuddle?
- If your house or living space an appropriate place for a dog? Do you live in the city or the country? This is a very important factor to keep in mind before getting a dog.
- What kind of personality do you have? Are you a strong tempered person? Dogs should not be yelled at, and they are not made to let your temper out on. If you choose a dominating dog, your strong character might be confronted by your dominating dog, and you could have problems. Not all dogs are submissive.
-The hair length - Short or long coat? you want to get a long coated dog, are you willing to fork out the price of the grooming those breeds require at least once a month? And you would see fur all over your furnitures and every other place possible - are you ready tp put up with it?

These are the few mandatory Q's that needs to be looked over before planning to get a dog.

And my personal opinion wud be a GOLDEN RETRIEVER, they are cute, smart, active, fun, gr8 with kds....what not? I Love my baby boy...he is gonna be one yr old 2morro...isnt that gr8 :)

Hope you choose the right breed and enjoy as ll us dog lovers do...all de best!

~Thanx~

That's a big question with a variety of answers. You need to determine your life style first. If you are away from home a lot then a cat would be a better choice. If you have small living quarters then a small dog or cat would do. Do you have a lot of time to play with the dog and take him for walks if not then get a cat. When you decide what will work for you and the animal then go to your local animal shelter there are all kinds of dogs and cats there waiting for someone to take them home. You can decide on a name when you get to know the dog or cat and know their personality better to choose a fitting name. Good luck.

Okay, I could use some more info.
Do you want a house pet? Do you have kids?
Do you want a high energy dog or a lazy dog?
Here are a few options:
Neopolitan Mastiff mild-tempered yet looks like good protection big dog that doesn't require a lot of exercise~Bogey or Candy

Bichon Frise loves kids, needs lots of attention, so sweet and cute, requires a lot of grooming, nice little dog~Snow white or Powder

Labradoodle medium size, easy to care for. Great personality, but not the cutest for looks. Honey or Rover

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Okay, your first question should be, "What kind of dog do I need?"

You need to decide on a breed first and what it takes to care for it. Coat (short or long), expenses (food, crate, brush, flea and tick treatment, heart guard, grooming, ect), and temperment. Are kids a factor and or strangers.
You also need to determine space for the type of breed and exercise requriements.

Responsibility and care are two part. Physical and emotional. If you get a German Sheperd in an appartment and expect it to be happy without exercise, that would be wrong. I have a labrador. His mother is very laid back and easy going and requires a bit of exercise. He is a bit more hyper because he is young but happy with running after bunnies in the yard and walking with me. I live in the country.

You want to enjoy the dog with activites that you enjoy, so determine what you like and what dogs like them also. Like walking, jogging, swimming, calm, excitable, yappy or quiet. Research dogs on the internet and at your local library and see what you come up with and ask people with dogs what they think. I love my labradors and I named mine Angel and Luke. Andgel was found at my church and I rescued her. Hence forth her name. Luke just seemed fitting for his personality. good luck

If you want a big dog - get a Rhodesian Ridgeback, they have all the qualities of a guard dog (they look fierce they're an excellent watchdog) but have an excellent temperament and they don't drool as much as a lot of bigger dogs. They were interbred with labradors (and I think the African hunting dog and rottweiler) so they have a great personality. You could call it Zimbara.
I would suggest a little dog but they have nasty personalities.

Different breeds are for different people. I would research different breeds, and see which one is best for you. There is a big difference between many different breeds, some are high energy, some are protective, some are just cute and small and dont require much exercise or time, and some require alot of grooming and brushing, and attention. By working at a groomers, I experienced many breeds with all different dispositions, and needs, and also different personalitys just like people. If you get the wrong breed that does not go with your life style and personality, neither of you will be happy.

I think that it depend on what kind of dog you want, big or small. if you want a small dog that you can carry around, and that is friendly, I would get a pug, or a basset and name it somthing like Scruffy or Nita or Maddy. If you want a big dog, I would get a german shepard, dingo, black lab, or a golden retriver, and name it Sabaka Buddy trooper or Angus.

It depends on if you like little, medium or large dogs and if it will be an inside dog or out side. It will also depend if he/she will be for hunting, working or just part of the family, also if it will be in town in small you or out in the country where there is plenty of room. A small to medium one for inside medium to large for out side. A girl name Foxy lady or Robyn. A boy Hercules or Sampson.
