I think about how bad everything is - I don't take any notice of the good that's actually outweighing the bad in my life. I've gone through a lot, I know what it's like to be depressed. I'm bi-polar, and every now and then I get really down. Sometimes I write poetry, read poetry, or listen to sad music. I've read the Bible too, it keeps my mind off of things and it really is kind of nice to read. Other times I'll draw and play on my computer. Working out helps, as does watching a movie or shopping. Eating is another major one - Although I've taken control of that part - I used to eat when I was depressed - and that made it all worse because I had gained more weight. So eventually I started working out and worked off all the depression weight - running seven days a week and just taking walks outside and it's kind of peaceful when you can go out and you see the birds, rabbits, and lizards or other animals.

I know it doesn't follow reason or logic but I tend to make it even worse.
I am a diagnosed manic depressive and during the down times I usually make it worse by making self-deprecating remarks (I call them observations), and spending obscene amounts of money on prostitutes, narcotics and alcohol.
I defile myself in the worst possible way by doing vulgar things that only the most vile and wretched excuse for a human being would even consider.
I usually engage in things that result in other people questioning my sanity.
The last time it happened my little sister found me in the back yard of a friend's apartment in Chicago taking turns shooting each other with bulletproof vests on. Needless to say, neither the authorities nor the neighbors were particularly happy about it and the rest of my family was of course, righteously pissed.
They tried unsuccessfully to have me committed.
They only failed in the attempt because I had a better attorney.

The hard part is figuring out why you are depressed. You may or may not be able to remedy the situation that made you depressed.

What helps me is to talk. Be careful who you talk to. Find someone who will listen and understand that you just need to talk and that they don't necessarily need to do anything to help you. By talking about it you find answers from within yourself.

There are tons of people out there who would do anything for you not to be depressed. You just need to reach out and they will be there for you.

As far as remedying depression ... I don't. I've tried lots of different anti-depressants and I hate what they do to me. I've got a huge dislike of putting strong chemicals in my body.

When I GET depressed ... I passively let my world fall apart and relationships to fail. I care that it's happening ... but I just can't bring myself to do anything about it, so the depression ends up fuelling itself even further as I watch everything I've worked to be and to have go down the toilet ...

What I do is isolate myself from the rest of the world. I become insular and cold.

Hate it. I'm depressed right now and it really friggin' sucks. I feel powerless to do anything about it.

Try a therapy called lachrymology. It helped me alot. I have bi polar and many anxiety problems, yet through meditation and therapy I keep it under control.

Try not to abuse substances...you don't need any more chemical imbalance.

Analyse art.

Keep busy - start by achieving little tasks, like buying and maintaining plants. Write a little. Cook. Work towards goals, always be progressing. But remember, one hurdle at a time.

truthfully, go hide in the closet for me, but might not work for you. best way to alleviate depression, sounds hoakey, is activity. go for a walk, take a jog, walk the dog, go out and get moving. helps with the depression sleep fits too. If you don't want to go outside, clean the house, pick a room and just go until you feel that you've accomplished something. have a way for yourself to realize that things are not totally out of control and you can do something about it.

I think you mean, what do you do about it, right? You keep busy, be with people you like and who like you, get some exercise (no matter how light.) And get rest, at night. Eight to nine hrs. Do not drink. Go to happy movies. Look at photo albums of happy things. And most of all, remember this is a passing state of mind.

Be well.

I sleep. Then if I still feel down, I read my Bible for inspiration and guidance.

...and pray.

I will say that one time when I was very depressed, started counseling in addition to the above. It is helpful to talk, and sometimes family members can/should be included if it helps things change (if it is situational).

All the best - I'll pray for you!

I eat a bar of my fave chocolate while I cry. If that doesn't help, i get dressed and do a li'l shopping. If I'm not out of it, I call my honey and ask him to make love to me. That should get me straight back up to cloud 7 if not 9.
