It is very painful and getting worse. Makes the ball of my foot sore too

Eat black olives. Three or 4 a day. After about a week or 3 to 4 days you will start to feel better. Worked for my 99 year old grandmother for the last 40 years.

Go have the doctor check it out. Gout also starts in the big toe a lot of the time. For either one (I have arthritis and my husband has gout) we use Naproxen Sodium that you get at the pharmacy. Take it at the first sign of pain.

If the pain swelling is limited to your big toe it maybe caused by the build up of uric acid....Gout.

Are you sure it's arthritis and not gout?
