My puppy is six months old and has gotten sick three times in the last several months. He throws up and has the runs, I have taken him to the vet and he gives him medicine and then he is fine. Now he will not eat or drink and is real lazy nd is throwing up, he has had all of his shots, I use Pet Resolve to clean and he is an indoor puppy. I walk him so he is never alone outside. What is wrong with my puppy???

Any number of things.

You didn't give enough of a history to even begin to narrow down all the different possibilities. Plus, it would take a physical exam also.

Time for a second opinion from a different DVM. Make sure you take all his records with you.

Goodness. When you switched food, did you take a week to transition? Changing foods can cause diarrhea. Our vets do like Blue, so that sounds good, unless your pup is sensitive to it. No those stools are not normal. Hopefully, your vet did a fecal float, plus a cytology, where he would read the slide and look for other things, like coccidia and giardia, plus hooks, rounds, whips. Then he could select a medication for whatever he saw. I would find out what type of fecal test he did. If it was just a fecal float, that wasn't good enough. Hopefully your pup has been dewormed several times and has been on heartworm meds every 30 days. Those medications also are for intestinal parasites. I would call the vet again. I know it costs money, but none here is qualified to diagnose, plus you couldn't get the meds anyway without a prescription. Vomiting and diarrhea can be from lots of things. Diseases, parasites, foreign bodies are among the possibilities. To find out what's going on, the vet has to run diagnostic testing. Purina isn't a bad food, as far as over the counter foods go. They have been around for a long time. Pumpkin, I believe, actually is used for constipation, rather than diarrhea -- I honestly think you have that wrong, but am not 100% certain. The medication you were given doesn't sound like anything I'm aware of. I don't know of anything that costs that much and takes 3 a day, unless it's an antibiotic. You evidently declined the meds?? Trust me, you will end up paying a lot more, if you don't follow the vet's advice the first time. You can't tie their hands and then expect them to fix your puppy. Don't mean to be harsh, but it is the truth. vet tech

There are a few real keys to dog training, whether you are trying to train your dog to come when called, sit, stop barking or any other behavior. Understanding their importance is critical to achieving rapid results that are long lasting and help develop the bond between you and your dog. Read more here https://bitly.im/VdU6W

The first is simple; you must win your dogs mind. If you don’t achieve this first then you will be struggling the all the way. When I talk about winning your dogs mind what I really mean is that your dog looks to you for all the decisions. Before you do anything else watch one of the amazing video sites that show you the 5 Golden rules to establishing yourself as the pack leader. If you aren’t putting these in place then you are setting yourself up to fail. Just at the crucial point where you really want your dog to listen they will go and do their own thing. For sure your dog may play ball occasionally or even most of the time, you may even have a dog that is obedient 99% of the time, however if you want a dog who always listens to you and does as you ask then you need to win your dogs mind.

The second key to success is to motivate your dog. It is really important that you discover what it is that your dog enjoys both in terms of exercise and play but also in terms of a reward. If you can make the experience enjoyable then you will both achieve more and look forward to training.

Some dogs love to fetch, others love agility, and other dogs simply love obedience training, or swimming out into water and retrieve. At least to start with find out what your dogs love is and help them develop this, what I am saying is work with your dog. The other point to recognize is to make training enjoyable reward your dog.

If your puppy is lethargic and vomiting, it needs medical attention. Check its temperature (anything over 102 is not good). If the illness is recurrant it might have a hearty case of worms, or it might have access to a bad source of water or other contaminants. Internal parasites like coccidia and giardia can cause these symptoms. So do diseases like Parvo and HGE -- both of which can kill your dog. (You said he's had his vaccines, but if the vaccines were fake or were from a bad batch -- and this DOES happen sometimes without the vets being aware of it until it's too late -- your dog could have a disease.)

We suggest that you go to a DIFFERENT vet, since your present vet doesn't seem to be concerned about this recurrant illness. Take a sample of the pups' poop with you and have the vet do a "fecal float" exam and checks not only for worms but for coccidia and giardia as well.

If your pup has recurring diarrhea and is refusing to drink, he can become dehydrated very easily. Make sure he has access to fresh clean water (buy bottled water if you have to and feed it to him with a needle-less syringe every two hours).

His condition doesn't sound good to us. We wish you the best of luck.

Please consider talking to a different vet clinic, this is not normal. My first guess is that the food you're feeding her is too rich. It costs a bit more money but the best thing I ever did was to start buying the prescription food from the vet's office. Or if that's too expensive, switch to Science Diet or Eukanuba, but first find out what's causing the problem.

Did the doctor perform a stool sample? is it worms or a bacterial infection?

If a 2nd doctor cannot find anything wrong, check with the vet about mixing a bit of rice with her food (not instant, and not rinsed .. you want the starch)

You need to take him back to the vet. He may have a hidden and serious problem. He need a full checkup. Blood work, stool sample and perhaps an x-ray.
This doesn't sound good so please don't waste any time. Dogs can dehydrate quickly and die.
I don't mean to scare you but he maybe suffering more then you or your vet previously thought.
Also don't change foods on him. If you change dog foods that will make him sick too.
But I don't think that is your problem. Your pupply shouldn't get sick so often. Please Please see you vet.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tinyurl.im/lq5f5

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

He may have an allergy to the food he eats. Check with your vet about changing his diet. But if he keeps getting sick you need to keep taking him back to the vet because he may have an underlying medical problem that the vet hasn't figured out yet. Don't let time go by letting him be sick, take him back the vet right away so the can come up with a satisfactory diagnosis. Good luck.

Did the vet test him for parvo? Even a puppy who has had shots is still very vulnerable to parvo.
I think another trip to the vet's office is in order, ask the vet what is going on with the puppy, why is getting sick so often? Did the pup get into something that he shouldn't?

What kind of food are you feeding your puppy? I know sometimes with certain foods the batches are different and will make a dogs tummy upset and give runs to a dog. It's happened to my dogs in the past . I was feeding Eukanuba at the time and some bags would give my dogs the runs and make them vomit. I didn't think about it at the time until I started feeding a better food ,then it stopped.
