I was thinking about getting a nose ring but for certain occasions i will have to take it out. How long can i keep it out before it closes to the point where I cant put the ring back in.

You shouldn't ever take it out for at least 3-6 months (the piercer will tell you exactly) And this is only for it to heal. After it has healed, it won't close overnight lol. You could probably keep it out at least a day with no worries.

But a helpful suggestion- when you get it pierced, ask for a small stud and worry about a ring later. Studs, though not as appealing as a piercingless nose, are more likely to be hired at a job interview than rings! Studs are less intrusive in social situations that are too formal to have visible tats/piercings.

Hope I've helped!

Until it's healed completely, you should not remove the jewelry at all. Healing time is 2-4 months for nose piercings, assuming you are talking about nostril not septum (septum takes a bit longer on average). Once you take it out for events or occasions, it really depends on your body for how long it will stay open. Some people will experience it closing after only hours, where I leave mine out for weeks and nothing comes of it. My suggestion is to buy a retainer for it or not get it done and consider something else. Once its healed, take it out while you are at home. After 1 hour, put it back in and see if it hurt or if it'll go back in. Then repeat with 2 hours a week later and so on. (Though I don't condone that, since its your body, do what you want)

If at any time you cannot get the jewelry back in, do not force it or you will be in a world of pain. If you cannot get it in, go back to a piercer immediately or leave the jewelry out.

Different people are different. When you first get it done 97% of the time it will close in a matter of minutes. (about 5 minutes or more depending on the person sometimes longer) Usually after 2 months it will be fine to take out for periods of time with out closing. However lots of people have theirs done and 5 months later they have to push their nose ring (stud) back through their nose cause the inner layer of skin closes over.
If you get it done, wait 2 weeks and go back to your piercer and let them see how well it is healing up and ask them for their opinion cause they will be able to tell you after looking at it. Good Luck! :-)

I just got one sometime in the first week of may 06 and not too long ago it came out while I was sleeping, I could tell the hole had gotten smaller through out the night but it wasn't completely closed, noses really don't take long to heal, but you should probaly call your local piercing and tattoo place

Well, everbody's different...I know mine tries to close pretty quickly, even when I'm just changing it. I would suggest getting a clear retainer to put in for those certain occasions, that way you can't see it and the hole will still be open.

I had my nose pierced 5 years ago..
Well, not to scare you, but it kinda hurt and my tears just automatically fell the moment they pierced in !!!
and the stud they used was so freaking big that i cannot stand it and took i it out the next day..
Wow, its just god damn painful cos it still an 'open wound' but i managed to change into a smaller 1 in agony.
Guess what? i had clown's nose for the next 1 week or so!!
After it has heal, its best for you to wear a stud every now and then, cos i almost had it closed, the most u can leave it 'free' for 2 days ...
Now, 5 years later, i have no intention of closing it up, becos everytime i think of closing it up, the memories of that moments just lingers in my mind..
Haha !!
