Never was a 'good' war and a terrible shame to see so many lives being lost around the world and if you have the courage to wear a uniform well that is your choice to be in harms way but it is more and more killing civilians as the recent atrocicity in the middle east has shown and the biggest threat to personal safety when I was serving in the British army were the Parachute Regiment - they attacked us as medics carrying stretchers on exercise on Hankley Common and they dropped into the DEZed and they came at us red cross arm bands and people on stretchers and actually piled into some of my platoon and a few needed to go to hospital because they have a little too much fighting spirit and I never went into Aldershot on leave because there was always the chance of a serious kicking from Paras and I do not see that amount of aggression is admirable - the Black Watch have been returned from Germany because they went as a battalion into town because one of their own and been badly treated - got beaten up by locals - and it may be hard for civilians to understand but these troops are at the peak of fighting strength and if there is no war they may need to 'vent' all that somewhere and if it is not in the service of their country they are just hooligans and should be treated as such but I have every sympathy with the families of those who are in harms way and every respect for the courage of those in actual combat at the present time and hope you come back safe.

I'm confused by the question / statement.
Britain WAS great, but a long time ago. We are a small, insignificant island in between the Atlantic and North Sea with a history and culture to be proud of, but as time passes successive governments have turned Britain into the mess it is today - heavily taxing its citizens, failing to combat anti-social behaviour and outright rioting, failing to get people to work, selling off its major assets to foreign buyers, failing to invest in its people and products and becoming the lap-dog of successive US Presidents. As a Briton I feel ashamed of what our country has become.

Britain will always be great, the people are the best in the world, just a shame our politicians are trying to tun it into the US.

Britain isn't so great anymore. look at who we have running the country, AND look at who we have fighting for our country. some soldiers are to be proud of cos they do their job honestly and respectfully and they deserve the utmost respect, especially the ones who gave their lives for this country.
BUT there are some soldiers now adays who go against what they stand for, cos they bully and rape people and each other.
and then there's you who wants to cheat on your girlfriend, and you keep giving me thumbs down!
