You shouldn't bath your dog everyday, it is extremely drying to the skin, unless he has gone out and gotten extremely muddy and dirty, then you should only bath him every couple of weeks. There is a powder that is made that you can put on your dog and that will help keep his coat clean and smelling good.

I've done a lot of dog showing, and when a dog is being campaigned, we bathe up to three times per week. It does over dry the coat, so we try not to to that much washing except for the very biggest shows. Frankly, for a dog not being campaigned, daily bathing will do more harm than good. It won't change the doggy smell, which mostly comes from the teeth, and it will dull the coat, making the dog worse looking, not better. If you are worried about smells, purchase some doggy toothpaste from the pet store, and use dry dog food. If you want a nicer coat, feed the best quality dog food possible. Eukanuba tends to produce great coats.

Dogs have a layer of oil on their fur and skin. By washing your dog everyday, you erode the oil which can make the dog itch and be very uncomfortable. Unless your dog rolls in the compost everyday then I wouldn't suggest it. Imagine washing your hair with a strong shampoo twice a day... that's what you're doing to your dog.

OMG nooooooooo this is the worst thing you can do...It will dry out their coat, and their skin, and take away all the natural oiils that they need for a shiny coat...and never bathe a dog in the winter or cold months...they could catch a cold very easily

That is fine but you should use a really mild dog shampoo because it will dry out the dogs skin. Unlike humans Dogs have a very oily layer on their skin and fur for protection and a more than mild soap can eat this away and leave dry skin and irritation that the dog will itch all the time.

He will get extremely dry skin -- slow down (unless he is rolling in poop every day) -- he doesn't need a bath that often. Once a month (or at the very least once a week) is all he needs.

You'll destroy the natural oils in its skin and ruin its coat. Dogs should only be bathed about once every three months (unless they get filthy in the interim).
