Sponsored by the Air Force Surgeon General and developed by L3 Communications, the exercise, called Code Silver, was intended to expose first responders to a variety of chemical and biological situations, creating an interactive atmosphere to develop more efficient and effective plans to overcome challenges.

The exercise was well-attended by base medical personnel, first responders from other units, including fire, security forces, explosive ordnance disposal and disaster preparedness, as well as representatives from the local community like Kern County public health officials and people from Antelope Valley Hospital and Tehachapi Hospital.

"The idea is to develop relationships between the base and local community responders," said Adam Christmann, the head of the Code Silver program.
