Airbus showcased its future aircraft project dubbed the A3XX for the first time at the Paris airshow in 1997. A few months before, at a meeting organised in Carcassonne in the south west of France, the aircraft in project had been presented in the greatest confidence to a small number of selected airlines likely to be interested by the project of a very large double-deck aircraft.
The general public discovered for the first time on the Airbus stand at the Paris airshow a full scale model of a cross section of the A3XX featuring the three decks. A virtual cabin was displayed on the upper deck while the main deck showed a futuristic video with imaginary scenes of life on board, and the lower deck showed the space available for cargo.
Three years before the industrial launch of the programme and the official naming of the aircraft, few people outside Airbus believed in the feasibility of the project and the interest it was to meet.
Today, eight years later and a few weeks only after its successful maiden flight, the A380 is expected to be the star of the airshow flight displays. It will fly in the company of the smallest and the longest aircraft of the Airbus Family, the A318 and the A340-600.
The long-awaited test lasted almost four hours, with the A380 circling the Bay of Biscay before returning to base.
The A380 took off from its production site in Toulouse with a crew of six and about 20 tonnes of test equipment.
Airbus has informed its A380 customers about a further delay in the delivery schedule of the A380. According to this revised plan, the first A380 will be delivered in October 2007. Thirteen more will be delivered in 2008 and 25 in 2009. The industrial ramp-up will be completed in 2010, when 45 A380s are going to be delivered.

well since sarayu practically answered all of your questions, all I can say is that the A 380 is like a cruise ship with wings flying. It's soooo luxurius that it's got a dining room, larger bathrooms, libraries and whole bunch of stuff. Carries up to 555 passengers.
And boy would I love to ride in one of those...

For the most part you can just google it, but right now it is unknown when it will come into service, caise they are having some technical problems that are setting the program back for some time.
