why doesn't god want people to be gay?

The greatest commandment of all is to Love. God also doesn't make mistakes. People are born gay. However, there are some people that choose to be in same-sex relationships due to personal issues and (usually negative) past experiences or simply for attention and the taboo-factor. Many of those people who engage in same-sex relationships for the taboo/fun factor cause others to believe that being gay is a choice. These people are not gay, they are people who engage in same-sex sex, but whose orientation is not homosexual. A true gay person is born. Remember this distinction as it's very important.

Sexual orientation does not change. It is ingrained. Some people may belive it 'comes' later, when in fact due to the social taboo, many people who are gay and feel intimate emotional/physical connection to those of the same gender repress or do not/can not admit it to themselves until later. Due to this we sometimes belief people 'become' gay, when if fact the person simply finally came to terms or otherwise finally acknowledges being gay.

God loves everyone. God doesn't want people to hate themselves and the diversity and difference that he created when he made them. There are a lot of things society and people want you to think God doesn't want people to be or do. It's best to get your answer from God, not from what people tell you God says. This means a lot of introspection, praying, and meditating on your own. Also, don't be afraid to ask those who God guides you too, such as people you respect, admire, trust and look up to. You can also do a search on amazon.com for books relating to homosexuality in the church and religion. I encourage you to learn about 'both sides' of the 'argument', but never forget to love, especially when it means loving and accepting yourself as you are and as God made you. Good luck!
