the term was used in a song our choir sang today...

2006-10-08 14:32:49 · 9 answers · asked by nancy jo 5 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

The song the choir sang was entitled "Whenever We Agree Together"
The term was used in describing Paul and Silas and the other prisoners who were converted in the Phillipi prison experience.
"Shikinah Glory shining on each face..."

The songwriter may have used a little imagination here, since the Bible doesn't specifically state this.

I so appreciate everyone's information. Based on what was going on during this earthquake at the prison, Shikinah Glory may very well been on each face.

Thank you.

The word describes the physical manifestation of the brightness of the Lord's being.

Clouds, fog, rainbow effects, and other natural phenomenon are also associated with Shekinah Glory.

Moses spent more time in the close presence of the pre-incarnate God than anyone, and he was literally transformed as a result.

Exo 34:27 And the Lord said to Moses: Write thee these words, by which I have made a covenant both with thee and with Israel.
Exo 34:28 And he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights: he neither ate bread nor drank water, and he wrote upon the tables the ten words of the covenant.
Exo 34:29 And when Moses came down from the Mount Sinai, he held the two tables of the testimony, and he knew not that his face was horned from the conversation of the Lord.
Exo 34:30 And Aaron and the children of Israel seeing the face of Moses horned, were afraid to come near.
Exo 34:31 And being called by him, they returned, both Aaron and the rulers of the congregation. And after that he spoke to them,
Exo 34:32 And all the children of Israel came to him: and he gave them in commandment all that he had heard of the Lord on Mount Sinai.
Exo 34:33 And having done speaking, he put a veil upon his face.
Exo 34:34 But when he went in to the Lord, and spoke with him, he took it away until he came forth, and then he spoke to the children of Israel all things that had been commanded him.
Exo 34:35 And they saw that the face of Moses when he came out was horned, but he covered his face again, if at any time he spoke to them.

The term "horned" actually means "rays of supernatural light" which, emanating from Moses face, scared the living daylights out of the Israelites.

The transformation of Moses' physical body may also have been the reason Satan wanted to have it:

Jude 1:9 When Michael the archangel, disputing with the devil, contended about the body of Moses, he durst not bring against him the judgment of railing speech, but said: The Lord command thee.

It is an almost indescribable surrounding presence of the Lord. The Shekinah Glory is often described as a smoke or fog, but it is not cold or difficult to breathe in. Some have speculated that the "cloud" the Israelites followed during the day was the Shekinah Glory of God.

Regardless of men's descriptions, it is a physical manifestation of the presence of God in/at a place.

When Moses had the ark built God came down and rested on the ark of the covenant and His glory shone forth to the extent that when Moses came out from being in near the ark, he had to put a veil on his face as it shone really bright too. So it is the bright shining of God's glory.

Shekinah means "the presence of God on earth" . so I think it would probably refer to the glory of God's presence.
