Shave downwards -- in the direction the hair grows.

If you shave up against the hair growth it cuts the hair shorter (and your legs will be smoother), but when the hair snaps back (remember the old Gillette Trac II commercials) it can retract beneath the epidermis.

Finding it's way back out of the follicle can result in the bumps.

This is particularly typical of curly or coarse hair.

i use to shave but i found it a great hassle so i switched to an epilator and I am really pleased with the results, yes, its takes longer, but it takes a longer amount of time to grow back, it grows back thinner, in the long run its cheaper. However if you have your heart set on shaving, i suggest cocoa butter just to remousturise your skin and i would say the bumps are just the regrowing hair follicles so they are hard to get rid of, but for smooth legs cocoa butter should do the trick.

Try using a shaving cream with baby oil or baby oil itself, and make sure you aren't keeping your razors too long. A dull blade can cause major bumps.

Try to shave with conditioner, I use it and it leaves my legs so soft.
