Definitely seek professional help as your agoraphobia may be rooted in something else like PTSD, which is I think more easily or comfortably treated than overcoming a phobia. Otherwise aversion therapy like the other answers, only in baby steps. Go as far as you can comfortably go and stay there reminding yourself that you are safe (have a trusted friend with you.) Reward yourself when you return home with positive words or a fun little dance, and then the next day go a little farther or a little longer. Keep a self-affirmation journal for the times that you get off track to remind yourself of your progress.

Create a written list of reasons or situations that you are afraid of.

Rank these items from; What you are least afraid (perhaps going to the library).... to what your fear most (a staduim event).

Start with the lowest item on your list, do it several times throughout the next day or two. Then do the second item that is on your list in the same fashion. Spend the next several month working your way through your list.

If you like you can feel the fear, prove to your brain that you are powerful and strong... and that you refuse to allow fear control your life. This type of fear is primative... your logically mind must prevail... and you can will it to do so.

There are so many phobia groups cropping up, that I bet if you looked in your area, you will find one.

If you're interested in reading, there was as wonderful book not written long ago by Linda Richman (ex mother inlaw to Mike Myers from Saturday Night Live) -- anyway, she didn't leave her home for 12 years.

I'd definitley would think about getting int a group for counseling. Agoraphobia is a disease of isolation... and the more you can deal with that, the easier it will be.

All the best to you!
You can do it!!!

If you think you have full fledged agoraphobia, you should probably see a psychological professional. They will try to help you (therapy preferably, drugs in neccesary) but if that doesn't work then I'm Sorry in advance... I guess.

For some it's talk therapy such as exposure therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy. For others, its the above plus medication. Either way, you need to see a psychiatrist and a therapist for help.

Shock therapy--go outside! Do it with someone you trust. At first, just look at pictures of wide open spaces on the computer and then go from there. Good luck!
