The first thing that any dentist will tell you is It All Starts With Good Home Care. One of the most important thing is to improve the conditions of your gums. Have your dentist do a full Periodontal Evaluation (probing of your gum pockets). If your dentist or hygienist does not do frequent checks of your gum pockets, you may want to change dentists or be evaluated by a Periodontist (gum specialist). Healthy gums have pocketing measurements of 1-3 millimeters, once they become, 4, 5, 6 and bleed a lot, additional measure need to be taken. Your dentist or Periodontist might recommend deep scaling along with localized antibiotic treatment. They may want to increase the frequency of your cleanings and place you on medications to take at home. Make sure you are brushing properly and FLOSSING every day (at least)!!! You may want to rinse with an antibacterial mouthrinse like Listerine or Crest Mouthrinse as well.

As for the cavities, brushing effectively, changing your diet (limiting your sugar intake), do not eat and drink ANYTHING after you have brushed your teeth for the night (except for water - thats ok). You may want to have your dentist prescribe a toothpaste that has a higher concentration of Fluoride. Also try a Fluoride mouthrinse (Act is a good one) as well. Fluoride helps to strengthen your teeth and recalcify small cavities that have started. If necessary, your dentist can even make you fluoride trays to wear on your teeth at night as well.

As for the yellow, make sure everything else is healthy first then worry about the esthetics!

Trish,
Yikes, sounds like you've had it rough in the dental department! A good idea would be to take care of your gums ASAP! You can't regenerate that tissue very well once it's gone, so keep brushing those teeth and flossing. A great tool would be a sonic toothbrush-by husband has receeding gum lines and he switched six months ago; the improvement is wonderful. Also, about the actual teeth: you can get them "sanded down" and a polish put on them. It may be expensive, but I suggest finding a dentist that YOU TRUST to do what's best for you. That would be the most important thing, I think!

See cavities r not due to braces,What I feel as a dentist its ur parents first responsible for not making aware od dental problems and most important is tooth brushing and I think its duty of parents to assist kid in brushing till they r 10 yrs.
This U lack probably.
Second dont change dentist frequently. All r good.U r not judge.
Go for subgingival scaling.
Get ur cavities filled with good composites.
For yellow stains go for bleaching and usually teeth r natural color.Yellow in fair colred people and white in blacks.
Have positive attitude.

Vitamin C helps with gum disease but it can also irritate the condition as well. You should go see a periodontist to help you with that problem. You should use an antiseptic mouthwash at least twice a day, and I think Sensodyne makes a toothpaste that helps strengthen the dentin of your teeth.

Keep brushing and flossing, and save up your money for major dental work in the future. I, too, had braces and I have all of those problems your talking about now -- as do most of my friends that had braces. I'm in my 30's now and I probably need dentures to "fix" all the problems.
