Hello,

I have an old whiskey bottle. It used to have a cork but it is long gone. I have a new cork in the bottle but it doesn't fit right.

I have cut it down but I don't want to go to far and make it loose. Is there anyway that I can get a tight fit?

I've heard something about boiling it and putting it in the bottle while it's hot. This will resize it and make it tight. Will this work and if so, would I have to heat it everytime?

Does anyone out there know what I can do with my cork? (open for a cheap shot right about here lol). But for real, any answers out there?

Does the whiskey evaporate if it isn't sealed real tight?

Thank you in advance and please try to give me a real answer after the cheap shots. mike h.

I would be afraid the bottle will break if you boil the cork. Some places sale corks of different sizes, but you will have to check around your area for them

You can use some cling wrap or even a plastic bag and a rubber band to seal it up tight until you can find the right stopper to avoid any evaporation. A couple days like this will have no negative effect on the whiskey.

As for the stopper, any liquor store will have various rubber stoppers you can use in place of the cork. These are sized to fit any standard bottle, plus or minus, for this very reason. No sense in risking odd shapes, bits of cork falling in, bottle damage, or any other "gotcha" with trying to fashion your own makeshift cork out of one that doesn't fit to begin with.

it will evaporate if not sealed as for the cork boiling it in hot water will cause it to swell and if you force it into the bottle it will reshape it to fit but you must leve it in the bottle untill it is completly dry or you can use sand paper to trim it down use a fine grit paper good luck
