I really think it would be good for me right now to join either the army or navy as I'm finishing up college and I don't have a clue what I want to do and my father was in the Navy and loved it. The only thing is I am obsessed almost with working out and I would not join if I couldn't workout at least 4 days a week. If this is possible to do while in the services then I'll probably join. I wanted to ask here because I know recruiters BS the crap out of you. I know it will be tough but I've always done better in life and actually enjoyed life more when I've been in tough situations and out on my own.

Also for the people talking about why I didn't ask my dad...if he knew I was going to join he would flip. My family is well off and I'm not doing this for money or because I have to (i'll be a college grad this year). Also for the people talking about normal training...several of my buddies have been in service and I was a coll athlete so I'm not worried about the normal training.

Every military installation has a well equipped gymnasium, even the smallest ones, even the Air Force who has the easiest physical fitness standards.

I think you will be underwhelmed at how tough thequality of life is for the average serviceman. There have been so many improvements to my quality of life that it is not the issue. The lifestyle is what makes it tough, pulling duty, missing weekends, time away from family, that kind of thing. Your dad was right, service is great. Even in our small detachment in Saudi Arabia of 14 people, we had a gym. Hurry up and come on in . . . I will see you at the gym. ^^

while everyone has answered your initial question (yes there are workout facilities everywhere, including ships at sea).. You must understand that it may not be possible to guarentee time will be available for you to work out 4 days a week.

During Basic training/Bootcamp, you'll be working out every day..often a whole lot longer than you want to. Schooling often has mandadtory PT at least three times a week, but once you hit the Fleet/Field, your days may be kept busy doing other things.

WHAT???? You say your parent was in the Military, and you still do not know the answer to this question?

YES, all posts, bases, installations, shipyards, whatever have PT Facilities on them -- and weight training is part of that PT -- so there is no reason that this could not have been answered by your parent at this time.

You MUST realize by now that all Military have to maintain physical conditioning -- and are tested on their physical conditioning all the time. It is part of the responsibility of the Servicemember, and there are PT activities for the unit as well.

Tell the recruiter on campass you want to go to infantry O.C.S. The physical requirements there will keep you in shape. As a college grad you are allready qualified. After you finish O.C.S. become an airborne ranger. Beleive me if you can get into a ranger battalion you won't need a gym to stay in shape. Trust me!

My husband is enlisted in the Navy. I met him in my home town of China Lake, CA, where he was first stationed and we have since moved to Lemoore, CA (about 30 miles South of Fresno). Both bases have great gyms that are free to enlisted and dependants. China Lake's gym has indoor and outdoor pools, indoor basketball courts, racketball courts, free weights and machine weights. Lemoore has a lot more machines and the pool is outdoor but you can't beat it when it's for free! And any base you are on has a gym. All the boats and submarines have gyms too. The military expects you to be fit so they aren't going to deprive you of a gym!

Almost every Military base that I have been on had a Gum for working out with all the equipment you want. and every U.S. Navy Ship that I was stationed on had a weight room and several bikes stationed in key areas of the ship, and in your off time you were allowed to work out to your heart's content,

Most Army posts have gyms. Even overseas posts. I can't speak for the Navy, but I've heard that ships and air craft carriers are like cities. They have lots of conviences.

It's almost a certainty, unless you're somewhere very, very barebased and that would be a short, temporary duty station. Even then someone will usually bring some freeweights. I have to say though, don't discard the Air Force. Our gyms kick butt!!!
