The answer to this depends greatly on yourself.
For instance, can you safely admit that you have no problem staying friends with this man? Or will he plague your heart for as long as you know him?
If he has made it clear that he is not feeling the same way you are, I would greatly suggest not pursuing a fleeting ideal. It would be best to simply let the issue drop, apologize for creating this little issue, and continue your life.
Who knows? He may just swing around in time, if you still want him.

If you value his friendship and can go without his romance, then just tell him.
It might end up tense for you, because if you love him, thats not just going to go away because you aren't going after him. To continue your friendship its going to take some major concentration on your part.

well talk to him and say that you're not really expecting anything from him... the fact that he is your friend is enough and that you are happy with that... but if really tends to avoid you be it, at least you know you have been honest with him

I would forget about him being my "boyfriend" and just focus on the friendship because OBVIOUSLY he doesn't want anything more than just friendship.
