It's your subconsciousness. Believe it or not, your subconscious has more control over your body than your consciousness. You decide to walk across the room - it's your subconscious that actually puts heal-toe, balance, arms moving, etc. You don't really even think about it. Another example is blushing - you can blush so why couldn't scratches appear on your skin.

You might try therapy of sorts - hypno-therapy might be interesting. Remember that your subconscious cannot speak in words - only symbols. Dreams might be helpful too - before going to sleep, ask yourself to dream to tell yourself why you scratch yourself. It may take some tries, but again could be insightful.

My husband was looking over my shoulder and suggested that maybe your pet is scratching you.

Gosh! Did you get new sheets too?? Are you using a new detergent?? It sounds like you are scratching your self at night form something. You still can scratch your self pretty bad even if you chew your nails! It depends on how hard you are scratching! Try washing all your bedding in a "for sensitive skin" type laundry detergent. See if that helps. If not, I would see a doctor.

Yeah actaully I've had this problem before and I thought at first maybe i was hitting my arms on the wall while I was asleep, but then one morning i woke scratching my arm and i realized it was myself scratching me. OR if you have a cat very likely that could be the problem, but if you are scratching yourself you're probably under alot of stress and should try doing somethimg calming before u sleep. Wat i did to stop is to remind myself Not to scratch every night and eventually I DID stop the end
