I have 2 bulging disk and mine just happen to be painful. What happens is the the nucleus (spongy center) will bulge against the annulus (outer ring), If this bulged, or herniated disk, presses one of the nerves, it will produce pain going down the leg, in the distribution of the nerve, and maybe in the lower back.

Translation: the disk itself is contained in a ring imagine a sponge in the center of a ring on your finger. Now imagine the sponge pushes part of the ring out of shape and it bulges out. This may cause pressure against your finger if you wear it and cause a lot of pain for some. I take ultram for the pain it works wonders.

There is a link for other people who suffer from this in the doctors lounge and more information from the other 2 links. Hope you feel better and hope this helps.
