Giving cookies in a jar is a really good idea for Christmas, I do it all the time. Here's a couple really yummy ones everyone has enjoyed :)
Oatmeal Raisin
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cup raisins
1 1/4 cup oats
Instructions:
1. Combine flour, salt and baking soda - stir well. Place flour mixture in a clean mason jar. Pack down tight so everything will fit in the jar. (Use a spoon or a mallet.) Add other ingredients, one item at a time, packing each layer down.
2. Put the lid on the jar and tie a ribbon around the lid. You can add a personalized label, if you wish. As an added touch, tie a wooden spoon to the lid with a piece of ribbon.
3. Print out the following instructions on a gift card and tape the card to the jar:
Whip 1/2 cup of butter until light and fluffy. Add 1 egg and 1 tsp. vanilla and beat until mixed. Stir in the ingredients from this jar until well combined. Drop 1 Tbsps of dough on a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees F. Share with a friend.
Applesauce Cookies

2. Put the lid on the jar and tie a ribbon around the lid. You can add a personalized label, if you wish. As an added touch, tie a wooden spoon to the lid with a piece of ribbon.
3. Print out the following instructions on a gift card and tape the card to the jar:
Whip 3 egg whites until stiff. Add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Stir in the ingredients from this jar until well combined. Drop teaspoons of dough on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 15 minutes at 325 degrees F. Share with a friend.
Spicy Ginger Cookies
4 cups flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup molasses
1 1/4 cups sugar

1. Combine flour, salt and baking powder - stir well. Place flour mixture in a clean mason jar. Pack down tight so everything will fit in the jar. (Use a spoon or a mallet.) Stir sugar and colored sugar together, add to the jar.
2. Put the lid on the jar and tie a ribbon around the lid. You can add a personalized label, if you wish. As an added touch, tie a wooden spoon to the lid with a piece of ribbon.
3. Print out the following instructions on a gift card and tape the card to the jar:
Whip 2/3 cup of butter or shortening until light and fluffy. Add 2 eggs, 2 Tbsp. milk and 1 tsp. vanilla and beat until mixed. Stir in the ingredients from this jar until well combined. Roll into small balls and place on a greased cookie sheet. Flatten each ball slightly with a fork or the bottom of a glass. Bake for 8 minutes at 350 degrees F. Share with a friend.
Snickerdoodles
Ingredients
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 1/2 cups white sugar
Directions
1 In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt baking soda, cream of tartar, and sugar. Stir with a whisk, then place into a canning jar.
2. Print out the following instructions on a gift card and tape the card to the jar:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a large bowl, cream 1 cup of butter and 2 eggs. Add the snickerdoodle mix and stir until a dough forms. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon. Roll the dough into 1 inch balls, roll the balls in the cinnamon-sugar mixture, and place 2 inches apart on an unprepared cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Cookies should be light brown. Cool on wire racks after removing from the oven.
ORANGE SLICE COOKIES
Ingredients:
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cups orange slice candies, quartered (10 ounce package)
Directions:
1 Mix together flour, baking powder and baking soda. Set aside.
2 Layer ingredients in order given in a quart sized "wide mouth" canning jar. Press each layer firmly in place. Add the orange candies last. It will be a tight fit.
3 Attach these directions to jar:

1. Remove orange slice candy from jar. Set aside.
2 Empty remaining cookie mix into large mixing bowl. Use your hands to thoroughly blend mix.
3. ADD: 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened at room temperature. DO NOT USE DIET MARGARINE.
Add 1 egg slightly beaten and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
4. Mix until competely blended. You may need to finish mixing with your hands.
5. Mix in orange slice candy.
6. Shape into large sized balls.place 2 inches apart on sprayed baking sheets.
7. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 12 to 14 minutes until edges are lightly browned.
Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet. Remove cookies to racks to finish cooling. Makes 2 1/2 dozen
cookies. Makes 2 1/2 dozen
DREAMSICLE
Ingredients
1/2 cup orange-flavored drink mix (e.g. Tang)
3/4 cup white sugar
1 1/2 cups vanilla baking chips
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Directions
1 Combine the flour with the baking soda and baking powder.
2 Starting with the Tang, then sugar, vanilla chips and ending with the flour mixture. Layer the ingredients in a clean glass wide mouth quart sized jar. Press each layer firmly in place before adding the next ingredient.
3 Attach a recipe card with the following instructions to the jar.
Dreamsicle Cookies
Yield 2 1/2 dozen
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
2. Empty contents into a large mixing bowl. Add 1/2 cup softened butter, 1 egg slightly beaten
and teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix until completely blended.
3. Roll heaping tablespoonfuls into balls. Place 2 inches apart on a lightly greased baking
sheet.
4. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 12 to 14 minutes or until tops are very lightly
browned. Cool for 5 minutes on the sheet then remove cookies to wire racks to cool completely.
Makes 30 cookies

Ingredients

2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

2 Layer ingredients in a 1 quart "wide mouth" canning jar. Press each layer firmly in place
before adding the flour mixture. NOTE: Be sure to wipe out the inside of the jar with a dry
paper towel after adding the cocoa powder.
3 Instructions to attach to jar:

1. Empty jar of brownie mix into a large mixing bowl. Use your hands to thoroughly blend mix.
2. Add 3/4 cup butter or margarine melted. DO NOT USE DIET MARGARINE. Add 4 eggs, slightly

4. Spread batter into a sprayed 9 x 13 inch baking pan.

Super Chunk Oatmeal Cookie Mix
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 cup quick-cooking oats
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
6 squares BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate, coarsely chopped.
Layer sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon, soda and salt in a large glass jar or combine in large resealable plastic bag. Top with chocolate. Close tightly and store at room temperature until ready to use or give.
ATTACH Baking Directions to jar (listed below). Use a recipe card and decorate it with ribbon or holiday string.
Baking Directions
PREHEAT oven to 375°F. Beat 3/4 cup (1-1/2 sticks) softened butter, 1 egg and 1 tsp. vanilla in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Add contents of jar; stir until well blended.

(Use a funnel that has a 2-inch opening, to layer nicely in jar.) With wire whisk, mix flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Pour into jar, pack down level with heavy object.
Mix oatmeal in a blender. Grate chocolate bar and mix into the oatmeal. Pack on top of flour in jar.
Add white sugar and pack down. Add brown sugar and pack down. Layer chopped nuts on top of brown sugar. Finish layering jar with mini or regular chocolate chips until even with the top (no more than 1/2 cup).
RECIPE TO ATTACH TO JAR: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Spoon chocolate chips and nuts into small bowl, set aside. Spoon brown and white sugar into mixing bowl, add 1/2 cup margarine or butter, cream well. Add 1 egg and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, mix well. Pour oatmeal and flour mixture from jar into bowl, mix thoroughly. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Roll into walnut size balls, place on slightly greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Bake for 8 to 10 min. INGREDIENTS: flour, oatmeal, brown and white sugars, soda, baking powder, grated chocolate, chocolate chips, nuts.
