Some have answered that the ayah (verses) quoted are taken out of context and some have answered that they have Muslim friends or that a Muslim man may marry a non-Muslim woman.

This is true. It is good to take quotations in context as Pope Bendict XVI understands.

It is clear, however, the Qur'an clearly advocates killing (qitl) non-Muslims.

A Muslim woman should not marrry a non-Muslim man but the Muslim man may even take the women of the men he captures in battle. Also, I am not sure whether it is prohibited in the Qur'an for a Muslim man to have sex with a non-Muslim woman.

Dear friends?

9:123 Oh you who believe! Fight/kill (qitl) the unbelievers who are close and dear to you. Let them find in you a (firmness and) harshness (of resolve). Be aware that Allah is surely with the pious.

What does this all mean? It means that Muslims do not intend to come to the US just to get an education and earn more money than they would in their homeland, but that they will convert Americans to Islam before teaching them that they will be required to turn against their friends and country. Muslims will never assimilate into the US.

In addition, there are vast numbers of people in this country and around the world who sincerely believe that Islam is peaceful, that only a handful of Muslim "extremists" commit acts of violence and that what non-Muslims should do is listen to the Muslims' political demands and not insult them or say anything bad to them so the Muslims will be kind, tolerant good neighbors and citizens.

The "peaceful" Muslims struggle "jihad" very sincerely with non-Muslims to make them see the light and convert to Islam. Initially, they do not want to kill non-Muslims but eventually, out of frustration, and goaded by their clergy and their more militant peers, they may change their peaceful attitude.

The Qur'an 2:6 says, Don't bother to warn the disbelievers. Allah has blinded them. Theirs will be an awful doom.

"Peaceful" Muslims sincerely want the non-believers to become Muslims. It is very important to understand that Muslims do not "hate" non-Muslims. In Islam only Satan causes hatred.

What does the Qur'an say?
2:251 ...This world would be full of (corruption and) chaos, had Allah not arranged to dislodge (and rid) one set of people by another. Allah is full of kindness and grace for the entire universe! (Munir Munshey translation).

2:10 Allah has sickened their hearts. A painful doom is theirs because they lie. 2:17-18 Allah has blinded the disbelievers.

Killing is forbidden in the Qur'an except under certain circumstances. Muslims only kill for good reason. They kill (qitl) for the sake of Allah (fee sebillah).

Muslims do not want to kill but Allah commands it even if they do not want to.

What does the Qur'an say?
2:216 Warfare (alqitalu) (for the sake of Allah) has been ordained for you, though it is not something you like. It is possible that the thing you detest might just (turn out to) be good for you. It is possible that the thing you like (the most) might in reality be bad for you. Allah knows (all) while you know nothing (at all)!
(Munir Munshey translation).

2:88-89 Allah has cursed them for their unbelief...The curse of Allah is on disbelievers.
2:98-99 Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers...Only evil people are disbelievers.

A thorough survey of the relevant verses of the Qur'an shows that it is consistent throughout with regard to these rulings on the justification of war, and its conduct, termination and consequences.

Nowhere in the Quran is changing people's religion given as a cause for waging war. The Qur'an gives a clear instruction that there is no compulsion in religion (Qur'an 2:256). It states that people will remain different (Qur'an 11:118), they will always have different religions and ways and this is an unalterable fact (Qur'an 5:48) - God tells the Prophet that most people will not believe "even if you are eager that they should" (Qur'an 12:103)

In Islam war is seen as justifiable and necessary to defend Muslims' right to their belief in Allah, and once Muslims have been given victory (by Allah) they should not become triumphant or arrogant or have a sense of being a superpower, because the promise of help given above and the rewards are for those who do not seek to exalt themselves on earth or spread corruption (Qur'an 28:83).

Righteous intention is an essential condition. When fighting takes place, it should be fi sabil illah - in the way of Allah - as is often repeated in the Qur'an.

"Fitnah" is worse than killing (Qur'an 2:191). Muslims do not hate non-Muslims. They do not want to kill them. They must force themselves to kill non-Muslims to rid the world of "fitnah". Muslims do not exhalt themselves as better than non-Muslims. That is what Nazis did. They were the "master race". The Nazis committed genocide on Jews and gypsies. Muslims do not have the same attitude toward killing. They have a "righteous intent".

A Muslim must submit both inwardly and outwardly to Allâh. A Muslim may not oppose anything from the Qur'ân by analogy (qiyas), sensation (dhawq) and unveiling (kashf) of a mystic, opinion of a scholar (shaikh or imam), or anything similar.

Islam is insidious, it encroaches on a culture slowly and deliberately. Here is a document which discusses the progression of Islam in great detail (50+ pages) -- "From dawa to jihad - the various threats from radical Islam to the democratic legal order":
http://www.fas.org/irp/world/netherlands/dawa.pdf

This one page essay by Dr. Walid Phares, "Islamic concept of Al-Taqiyah to infiltrate and destroy kafir countries" explains terrorism. Phares states, "It [taqiyah] is done to prevent the new converts from seeing the real face of Islam; at least until their faith or mental conditioning is strong enough to make them turn against their own country and people."

Not all Muslims blow up things, yet "jihad in the cause of Allah" "jihad fee sybil Allah" is "fard ayn" "compulsory duty" for all Muslims. Why? There are rules from the Quran for combattive jihad.

Actually, without reference to what number of retards published above, move seem into all three religions. You will see that of the three, Muslims and Jews have extra in traditional than whatever else in the ones three religions. In relation, a Muslim is extra like a Jew than a Christian is, and a Jew is extra like a Muslim than a Christian is. The rationale is not due to the fact that of the religions despite the fact that. It's all politics. Zionists desire Israel (I do not consider they must have it, however that is a entire different arguement), The west (UK, USA) needs Israel there as an best friend due to the fact that after WWI, and the autumn of the Ottoman empire, the British wholly exploited the humans of the core east. It might take a long time earlier than any person in that vicinity might best friend with anyone who essentially destroyed and broke their hometown. The reply? make every other nation, and feature them be the best friend, in order that they would retain their growth into the core east. Israel is that nation. So it occurs to be that Israelis are Jews, and the West is Christian. That's it. People simply use the faith to aid persuade their facet that the opposite facet is evil. Also, considered one of hte answerers is quite dull. The dome of the Rock is for Muslims, and can eternally be for Muslims. Just you attempt to take it.

Taking a verse out of it's context and trying to build an idea based upon it is not right. U should read the whole text to be able to understand it. Why didn't u pick out the verse that says that Muslims are forbidden from fighting Christians & Jews? The special tax u r talking about was paid by Christians and Jews who won't join the army, it wasn't because they won't convert and this is a long story, so I suggest u do ur research first then spread the information.

The Qu'ran also says: "Surely they that believe, and those of Jewry, and the Sabaeans, and those Christians, whosoever believes in God and the Last Day, and works righteousness -- no fear shall be on them, neither shall they sorrow." Sura 5:73.

I have read the Qu'ran and there is also a passage which forbids Muslims from fighting with Jews and Christians, but I can't find it and I don't remember where it is exactly. The index for this translation is somewhat thin.

SDS, how can the NT be Anti-Sem when God picked Jesus,a Jew, saved Paul(Saul a Jew) who killed Christians, and many of Jesus' followers were Jews(all in the NT)? Anyway, there are alot of peaceful Muslims but I think they are over-powered. The Pres of Iran is not hiding the fact that he & bin Laden want to wipe out USA then Israel, so should we not be concerned? The other thing is that they are telling the Muslim people that USA is trying to stop their 'Madi'(Messiah) from returning causing even more unrest.

I think the point Sara is making, is that Muslims only stopped "jihading" because they know they are in no shape to defeat anyone. As soon as they get the necessary technology and sufficient numbers they'll start killing again.

The Crusades are depicted as something bad, but the truth is that the Muslims had been stealing Christian land and killing Christians for four hundred years before the Crusades even began.

The Muslims lived very well and had the best technologies, but were divided. Christians were united but were very poor.

Why do people look at the Crusades as something bad again?

Christians are constantly accusing nonchristians of taking bible verses out of context, isolating them, and making them sound as if they are violent or contradictory.
That is exactly what you are doing here with the Quran. You cannot pick and choose one or two phrases out of either Holy book and base your entire judgment solely on those that you pick out. You must read the entire book, in all it's context to truly understand what it is saying.
You really need to stop the hatred, and the judging of others. For it says in the Christian bible "Judge not lest ye be judged" "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" and "Love thy neighbor". So, if you truly want to just pick and choose a few verses to live your life by then choose these. Living your life filled with that much anger and hatred will only be detrimental to you, no one else.

Don't just mention single verses without the context. In fact, Islam allows a Muslim Man to marry a Christian/Judish Woman.

You are trying to propaganda against Islam and Muslims.

A few selected verses from the Qur’an are often misquoted to perpetuate the myth that Islam promotes violence, and exhorts its followers to kill those outside the pale of Islam.
1. Verse from Surah Taubah
The following verse from Surah Taubah is very often quoted by critics of Islam, to show that Islam promotes violence, bloodshed and brutality:
"Kill the mushriqeen (pagans, polytheists, kuffar) where ever you find them."
[Al-Qur’an 9:5]
2. Context of verse is during battlefield
Critics of Islam actually quote this verse out of context. In order to understand the context, we need to read from verse 1 of this surah. It says that there was a peace treaty between the Muslims and the Mushriqs (pagans) of Makkah. This treaty was violated by the Mushriqs of Makkah. A period of four months was given to the Mushriqs of Makkah to make amends. Otherwise war would be declared against them. Verse 5 of Surah Taubah says:
"But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is oft-forgiving, Most merciful."
[Al-Qur’an 9:5]
This verse is quoted during a battle.
We know that America was once at war with Vietnam. Suppose the President of America or the General of the American Army told the American soldiers during the war: "Wherever you find the Vietnamese, kill them". Today if I say that the American President said, "Wherever you find Vietnamese, kill them" without giving the context, I will make him sound like a butcher. But if I quote him in context, that he said it during a war, it will sound very logical, as he was trying to boost the morale of the American soldiers during the war.
3. Verse 9:5 quoted to boost morale of Muslims during battle
Similarly in Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 5 the Qur’an says, "Kill the Mushriqs where ever you find them", during a battle to boost the morale of the Muslim soldiers. What the Qur’an is telling Muslim soldiers is, don’t be afraid during battle; wherever you find the enemies kill them.
