is the foot really swollen? does he not put any weight on it? Is there an obvious injury...like a bone sticking out? (hopefully not) is he wimpering or crying a lot? If you answer yes to any of these questions get to a vet. If not stricted cage rest for about 2-3weeks and some possible some ascriptin can help. But call your vet for a dosage. If your dog is not better or fully walkin on it in about 1 week take him to the vet.

First, make sure the dog doesn't bite you....even the most friendly dog can be mean when hurt, it isn't their fault.

Check for mobility. Hold the dog's leg and the elbow, and move the joint, then try the ankle/wrist and then try the finger bones.

If the dog is putting any weight on it, you can probably wait until morning, if you want you want you can ice it, and then imobilize it. If there is a lot of pain when you do the joint test, maybe think about taking your dog in tonight. But see if you can get the dog to lay still and relax, that is the best medicine a lot of the time.

Depending on how hard she/he was stepped on ... They are able to take a lot more thatn we think :-) I have 2 and when they get under your feet it happens .. One of my girls is 5 and the other is 12 weeks ... They whimper for a sec like if someone stood on our foot ... If they are still showing signs of pain ring a VET and make an apt :-) Hopefully by now they are OK ...

if your dog is limping on it, then i would take it to the vet to check on it...it your dog appears that it does not bother him, watch him for a day or so, he might be ok.....
