Poms and Pugs are a pretty good choice but do please be sure that your grandma is up to the task of raising a puppy. Puppies require a great deal of work in the first few months so you'll want to be sure that she's willing to do what's necessary.

As for pounds, the typical animal shelter tends to keep a lengthy waiting list of adopters looking for puppies and they tend to be at a premium. Still, check out your local shelter's website just in case. Far from simply offering dogs and cats to the masses, your local animal shelter is an amazing resource for pet owners, grievers and potential adopters and they might be able to recommend a breed that nobody here has thought of.

Still....be sure grandma actually wants a puppy, first, k?

there really arent any small breeds under 600 dollars-they are usually 1,000-1500
a toy poodle would be a good breed tho, i know many people's grandmas that have them as pets-and adore them

shitzus and pugs are also good breed to look in to

like the person above me said-make sure ur grandma wants a puppy-they need to be trained, housebroken, and wake up during the night. its like having a new born baby-that likes to chew everything

and are u sure u dont want to adopt an older (2yrs+) from a shelter? it might be better for ur grandma

So get a puppy from the pound. You may literally be saving a life. I bet if you check there, you'll find that there are several puppies to choose from.

we have a jack Russell terrier and she is very calm and recently bred with a rat terrier and we sold one of her puppies to an elderly lady and she said the puppy is very calm and was potty trained very quickly. you can look in the newspaper to find one maybe for 200-300. so i would say a jack or a rat terrier would be good.
