It seems if you accidentally touch a dogs eye, or get soap in it, they are not bothered, whereas humans have extremely sensitive eyes. Just an eyelash can put us in agony.
It would make sense if dogs did not have sensitive nerves in their eyes, seeing as though hair could get in all the time. Not to mention dogs where the eyes bulge out of the head (i.e. chiwauwas [sp?])
Anyone know?

They have the same numbers of nerve endings in their corneas and conjunctival tissues as we do.
They DO react to things in their eyes....they squint and paw at them a lot when something gets in there. Where did you get the idea that they don't???
We have to deaden their eyes with drops just to use a swab to look behind their third eyelid during an exam.

Dogs have nerve endings in their eyes so yes they do feel pain there. The things they are sensitive to may differ from humans and in some animals there is added protection and coverage of their eyeballs which may account for less sensitivity to some things but eyes are delicate organs in all animals and need to be protected and treated gently

Dogs do feel eye pain. To such a degree that some self defense companys sell dog MACE.
From what I hear it does not cripple them. But it is incredibly painful for them.
I think the soap just didnt penetrate both sets of eyelids.
