for some they want the child to say to the parent when they are ready to be baptized. not all feel this way about baptisiing babies. we are having our 4 yr old son baptised next week. baptised is not what soley saves you, accepting Jesus and repenting of sins all goes with it--- so eventually all will come to that point of all those things no mattewr when they are baptised

There is a difference between letting children come to him and baptizing babies. There are only a few denominations that baptize at birth. Catholic, Anglican, United being a few. Baptism at birth is actually a dedication, not a baptism. It's more for the parents, not the child. The parent promises to teach the child the Christian beliefs and raise them morally (according to the churches teachings). In order to be baptized, you need to know why you are getting it done. You need to have made the choice to follow Jesus in order to be baptized. A baby cannot make that choice. It does not know right from wrong. Usually someone gets baptized when they are older.
Being baptized as a baby does not mean you will go to heaven. Apparently, I was Christened (also another name for child baptism) but I don't remember anything about it. It was done because it was a tradition in my family. It was done in the church that my parents were married in, my mother was Christened in, and my grandparents were married in. It had nothing to do with religion, it was more a ritual.

Because baptism is a public declaration of ones faith and a baby who has no faith because it can't even talk can't come to Christ on it's own.
"Then Philip opened his mouth and began at the same Scripture and preached the gospel of Jesus to him. And as they passed along the way, they came on some water. And the eunuch said, See, here is water, what hinders me from being baptized?
Philip said, If you believe with all your heart, it is lawful. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still. And they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch. And he baptized him. Acts 8:35-38
Romans 10:9 Because if you confess the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.
If a person is raised in a "religious" household and they are told that they have been "saved" because the parents had them baptized as an infant then they have a false assurance of salvation and may end up in Hell wondering why their parents who were ignorant of this truth lied to them.

Children are innocent, this is why they will be first in the kingdom. To humble ourselves as children is what God wants.
Baptizing in the bible was only indicated to adults, people who were consciously sinning and chose to sin no more. Babies don't know what sin is!! You my dear have been brain washed. But I also don't think it hurts a baby to be baptized either, God knows it wasn't that babies fault that his parents chose the wrong religion. It's unintelligent to think babies know what sin is. If it were necessary for babies to be baptized ~ Jesus would have been as a baby. Sorry ~ catholic. You worship unintelligently, like the people who crucified Jesus. God bless.

People believe in Baptizing but i think a lot of people think you should wait and let the child decide if they want to or not.

Iam atheist and my wife is Christian. We both share our beliefs with our children and we dont shove it down their throats. We actually dont discuss it unless one of them asks us a question about it. Then we both sit down and answer the question. My wife usually goes first and I come in next with the rebuttal. My kidfs learn both side of the debate and THEY choose which one they believe.
Parents who tell their kids that they have to believe in God(religion) are doing their children a great disservice. they are telling their children "you cant think for yourself, therfore I am going to tell you what to think" and by the time the child is old enough to actually think for themselves the beliefs of the parents have been so ingrained into them it is near impossible to get it all out so the child can truly make their own decisions. It is a sad world when freedom of thought is OK as long as it agrees with everyone else.

We should teach children from infancy to know the holy writings.
that is a scripture, but to make an informed choice should be there decision. With my children I made them wait until they were 18 and really knew the bible and the different reasons why I felt our faith was the right one. But I wanted them to learn on their own. They did and when they were ready made the decision themself. Not a decision anyone else can make for you.

From the Baptist point of view, baptism is a choice that should be made once you're old enough to make the active decision to allow Christ into your lives. Also, Baptism is not the point at which "Jesus come to you." It's merely a public demonstration of your devotion to the Lord. He is with you regardless of the Baptism.

I am of the belief that adults can be baptized too. When my child reaches the age where she can make the decision I will let her choose....who know...maybe she wont want to be.
