Well…seeking out information is a great starting point to regain control of ones life.

Can it be done alone? Anything is possible, but when a leg is injured, it is much easier to lean on the healthy leg or use a crutch for support while the wounded leg is healing.

Anorexia is like an injured sense of self and unfortunately it is that very self that needs to heal. The support of loved ones reduces the stress placed on the fractured self, which yields a more sustainable recovery. However, there are always things one can do to better themselves:

Keep a diary of feelings
Make note of triggers for negative behaviors and thinking
Write letters to people, but don’t send them
Engage in creative arts like pottery, finger painting, photography
Take yoga, meditation, Thai Chi for relaxation and centeredness
Read books of other peoples' anorexia stories
Study the Buddhist philosophy…it helps to live a more fulfilling life
Live NOW how you want to feel tomorrow
Tell yourself, “I’m madly in love with you!” each day.
Say it enough and you will start to believe it.

If one cannot free themselves from anorexia alone, they have not failed for the same reason that bones don't heal without the support of a cast/crutch and the lean on of other bones. Anorexia is deep rooted and requires much strength, courage and insight.

Can.. it be done alone? VERY difficult.. It is a little like a smoking habit but I consider anorexia a little more complex.. As with smoking... you first MUST MUST MUST realize that you have a problem... IF and once you realize that you have a problem, your chances of remedying the problem are a little easier. The major problem is that most people refuse to realize that they have a problem and when this comes into play.. doing it on your own is nearer to impossible.

I was anorexic, got down to 88 pounds and still wanting to lose more, what got me out of it was when my mother took me to get my body fat analyzed at a gym..despite all the weight I had lost, I still had a high body fat, because my body was losing/burning muscle not fat. I took it upon myself to start eating healthy meals and exercising (not excessively) to maintain a healthy toned figure. I think I was anorexic because I never felt like I could be perfect enough, definitely goes back to being a child and wanting to prove that I was great and 'in control' of myself. You will be much healthier and look better if you eat properly. See a dietitian and talk to a personal trainer. Then go into yourself and find the reason why you starved yourself, we all have emptiness and disfunction..find the root of it and let it heal.
Good luck!

It's highly unlikely.

You have to have some kind of support, whether it be from professionals or family and friends.

You should seek professional help. There are clinics everywhere that will see you on a sliding scale (based on your income), if money is the issue.

I agree, you are more likely to be successful with help, but you might be interested to hear what Louise Hay has to say:

Probable internal cause of anorexia:
Denying the self life. Extreme fear, self-hatred, and rejection.

New thought pattern:
It is safe to be me. I am wonderful just as I am. I choose to live. I choose joy and self-acceptance.

Namaste,
Gwen

It's much easier with help.

Determine a balanced diet. Weigh everything on a kitchen scale. Eat everything.

Weigh yourself regularly. If you lose weight you can't do it on your own. Get help.
