I just wanted to ask.. i just *just* started taking zoloft 25mg (took my first tablet about 2 hours ago).. and iam feeling extremely drowsy and extremely depressed.. is it because of zoloft or just my depression hitting me? when the hell will my depression go away?
I would prefer answers from people who have had experience with anti-depressants.

all anti depressants take about a month to get into your system and fully start to work. You may feel odd at first, but the medication needs time to get adjusted into your system.

If you have major side effects, then call your doctor

There is no magic answer to when your depression will lift, or if one type of anti depressant will do it for you. Some people have to change medication and dosages until something works.

I'm a registered nurse AND I started taking zoloft a week and a half ago. Zoloft usually does cause the side effect of drowsiness....unfortunately for me I reacted strangely to zoloft and now I have insomnia really really bad. It usually takes 2-4 weeks for an antidepressant to start making you feel better though, so the depression is just your depression hitting you.

I took Zoloft and had the same reaction. I also took a number of other medications. Anti-depressants have serious side effects that should not be ignored. It is my experience that if you feel that crappy from the start try something else. Contact a qualified therapist and talk about any problems you may have. The benefits are a lot more rewarding than any anti-depressant that can cause you serious harm.

25mg. of Zoloft is a very low dose. A regular dose that a person might work up to is 75 to 150mg daily. It also takes time to have any affect on you. From 2 to 4 weeks. The only way you would be having this affect on Zoloft of 25mg 2 hours ago .. is if you are allergic to the medication itself. Which, again, is highly unlikely. If I were to guess, you are nervous about taking it .. that will make you feel weird .. if you are afraid of a drug. Try to relax. If it still is bothering you tomorrow this much .. call the doctors office that prescribed it to you and let him/her know it. Try to relax. Good Luck! :)

I took Zoloft several years ago and I found that it is best to take it at night on a regular schedule as it normally made me drowsy and I slept better. I went through a very rough time and was on the edge of a nervous breakdown and the doctor put me on 75 mgs and it helped me tremendously. You have to give it time to get in your bloodstream. The longer you are on it the more time it has to do it's job. Give it a chance to work and if you still seem to be having problems then talk with your physician to see what they recommend. Good luck and God Bless! Everything will get better!

Your extremely low dose of Zoloft shouldn't be enough to make you feel drowsy. It will take 2 to 4 weeks before you start to notice an improvement in your mood. If you are an adult, 25mg may not be enough to improve your depression. Adult doses generally start at a minimum of 50mg. Talk to you psychiatrist or family doctor about the possibility of increasing your dose.

Depending on your body, metabolism, etc...zoloft can take about two weeks to work well. As for the other symptoms you are probably just reading too much into things for right now. Take some time and sit back and relax. However, if you do start having any side effects that your doctor or pharmacist warmed you about you should call the doctor right away.

All mental health meds have fatigue side affects and many others for that matter. I believe that any brain medication acts similar to cold medication, that is that they just mask the illness and that you never will feel quite normal, whatever that is suppose to feel like. I suffer from the mania of bipolar and also a slight depression, and have suffered from a grand mal seizure. My neurologist prescribed depakote for the seizure and bipolar and lexapro for the depression. This combo works well for me. But when people ask me how I feel, I just fine, but really, I haven't a clue cuz of the mind altering medication. Mental health counseling is a big help too. I wish ya the best.

I've taken Zoloft and the thing that really bothered me about it, Is don't cry. My dad passed away a few years ago, and I didn't shed a tear. I quit taking it for awhile, and was a royal pain in the a**, so I started again. My dose was a lot higher then what you are taking.

I'm talking 100mg. So it shouldn't bother you

I have taken Zoloft and many other medications.
It takes a lot longer than 2 hours for medications for mental health to help you
Zoloft for example can take up to a month for you to feel back to normal.
