The verse is 1 Timothy 6:10a. The NIV translation says: "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil."

Note that people usually misquote this in three different ways:
1. It's not "money" that causes evil, but the "love of money"
2. It's not "the root" of evil, it's "a root" of evil
3. It's not a root of "all evil", it's a root of "all kinds of evil"

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

I Timothy 6: 10
For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith, and pierced themselves with many a pang. (NAS)
