she is being a very good mother to the pups. I keep trying to get her to eat and she will not. Is this normal? She just gave birth last night. I am taking her and the babies to the vet tomorrow.

I bought puppy because I read it is even good to give to the mother during nursing. I also bought liver because the vet gave me information on what is good for pregnant and nursing dogs. She just does not want to eat right now. she did eat alot after birth last night and threw it all up. She is nursing the puppies and they are eating good. will the vet have iv maybe when I take her to provide what she needs?

It is normal for some dogs. I raise Chihuahuas and I had a female that would not eat or go out to go to the bathroom for a week after having babies. They get a lot of nutrition from the afterbirths. I am sure she is fine. Just leave the food out for her and she will eat when she is hungry enough. Some of my girls, I have to really pamper and give them chicken and rice, cheese, yogurt, etc or they won't eat anything. Congrats on the new babies. How many did she have?

The dog gains a lot of nutrition after whelping just by eating the afterbirth, so she may not feel like eating just right now. Keep a close eye on her, and rather than having the bother of taking her and the tiny pups into the vet, which could be stressful for both mother and pups, I would call to see what the vet's office feels about this and how long it should be before she eats. If she still has milk to nurse, she should be okay for now. Puppy food and liver are both very good foods for nursing dogs, by the way!

The same thing happened when my dog had her puppies. When I asked my vet about it ad he told me it was normal and it will last about 3-4 days, what you should do to try to get her to eat is give her some of her favorites maybe canned dog food mixed with the dry puppy food that you bought and take the food up to her. She probably does not want to leave the puppies. If you do this and she still will not eat call your vet.
The reason why he told you to buy puppy food is because it contains more protein and the liver is he same. You shoul also try to get some nutri-cal which is a paste that contains lots of vitamins, it also helps to get her to eat more and it will be good to give to the puppies and the mother.

As someone else answered, she cleaned up and ate all the afterbirth from the pups, it is very normal for her not to be hungry,
I wouldnt worry to much about her, I would just watch her, taking a new mama and pups to the vet is very stressful for the mama dog with all the dogs and strangers around, If you feel you need to take her, by all means do.. Puppy chow is a wonderful food choice for preg. and lactating females..good luck!

what have been the tablets for the final time he went in? there are various distinctive motives for abdomen upsets. a GI an infection will reason the indicators your canines is having, as properly as a foodstuff sensitivity, or a parasite. have the canines checked yet lower back, and be sure you ask your vet bearing directly to the GI an infection at the same time as you're there. 2 of my puppies picked it up, and the vet cleared it up suited away with a shot of antibiotic and steriod, and a weeks' direction of antibiotics. in the experience that your canines is complicated to furnish drugs to, try straddling him at the same time as he's sitting, open his mouth, chuck the pill as a ways down his throat in case you may, after which carry his mouth close at the same time as you rub his neck. with somewhat prepare, you will get him to swallow every time, and he will by no potential flavor the pill! (cheese specially situations works too, once you're fearful approximately doing the pill-toss...) my rule of thumb is that if a canines (incredibly a domestic dog) has vomiting or diarrhea 2 days in a row, this is vet time. p.s. that's recommended to gradually replace from eukanuba to a sturdy grain-unfastened foodstuff like flavor of the wild.... it may set plenty extra useful on your canines's abdomen. i went from eukanuba to nutrena loyall, and it made all ther difference in my %. of canines. (i would be unable to have the money for to feed TOTW AND uncooked to 7 canines....)

It's OK that she doesn't want to eat right now ... she's been through alot. She'll start eating soon enough.
Make sure that she's drinking water. She'll become dehydrated if she doesn't take fluids. She needs to stay hydrated if she's going to nurse the pups.

Take her to the vet for a postpartum check up. That would be the best thing to do, that way if all is well, you will know. If something is wrong, you will know also. That is being a very responsible pet owner.
