Canton is actually Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, with more than 10 millions people in the greater Guangzhou. It is a very big commercial and trade centre, great place to shop, but it also has some beautiful cultural sites to visit. The cuisine is particularly good and surprising, with many ingredients and meat you will not find elsewhere in China, and it is one of the eight most famous and popular cuisine. It is not too spicy like Sishuan cuisine.

There is a Cantonese saying: "Any animal, whose back faces sky, can be eaten." You will find the usual pork, beef and chicken but also snakes, snails, insects, worms, chicken feet, duck tongues, ox genitals, and entrails. However, contrary to popular belief, dog is not a common restaurant food as in other parts of China.

Something hot recently in canton is the Yao villages, a minority group in China. A big community live in northern part of the Canton province. Every lunar 10/16, they will have a big celebration. Plus, the mountains in their region is beautiful in their own way, wroth to see.

Haven't been to that part though I heard the cantonese cuisine is one of the best and that you shoud try, I also heard that there are a lot of old traditional houses in Canton.
